Hey everyone. I went from scx24 overload to now wanting to build a comp crawler that will tackle anything. After building up my Jeep and seeing how relatively easy it is to work with, I figured it might be fun to kick the tires with a comp build.

I'm taking it slow and just starting to look for parts and information. Electronics are still foreign to me since I’m using the stock ESC with a 50t purple motor from Injora at the moment.

Also tx/rx seems to be a bit tricky since I have a spektrum ds6c that’d id love to use, but the smallest rx spektrum has is 99 bucks. Seems a bit steep

Anyway, any information you have is appreciated. I got bit by this 24th scale bug. Really cool platform

And so the addiction has begun.

Prepare for some squinting...unless you are young and have perfect vision...other than that, it's a lot of fun to work on the ol' SCX24.

I grabbed some Magnifying glasses to help out with the small stuff.

May I recommend putting a large sum of cash in an envelope and mailing it to me??? Thats how most of my builds start! 🤣
Have a finished product in mind before you start. Its easy to get lost and sidetracked by all the shiny parts and sales. I have absolutely fallen for that!
I do try to have a bit of "slush" money put away for when I need to buy ANOTHER bag of e-clips or shock oil...

Good luck with your build! 😎

Are you wanting full comp (don't care what it looks like as long as it performs) or just a super capable (still recognizable as a crawler) kind of build? I tend to lean towards the latter, but have been wondering if I want to try an all out comp rig, the only thing stopping me is that they look like something alien.

@MVRCA has built some CRAZY crawlers that look totalky "alien" to me!
He's prob got a few good suggestions for this build too!

I have two scx24s. One deadbolt and one JLU. The JLU is ‘built’ already as much as I’ll likely do. The deadbolt has upgrades coming from Santa like high clearance links, the purple motor from Injora and wheels/tires/inserts

I was thinking about putting together a proper comp build as a third and I don’t care how it looks. I like those spider looking builds with long weird wheel bases that can climb up a wall.

I took a stock SXC24 Deadbolt and gave it the comp treatment. It was a tremendously fun build, but be warned...you can end up throwing a ton of cash at one of these little guys at the end of the day.
If I may suggest, here are two very good resources for 1/24th upgrades:

I’m seeing how quickly things can add up. However, I finished a 5th scale build before jumping into the 24th scale and these prices are a relief so far compared to the large scale. Obviously 🤷‍♂️

For a comp build, you're going to need a chassis. There are tons of options out there for this. Like this Furitek Scythe.

A simple Google search for "SCX24 comp chassis" will find a lot of options.

For electronics, look at Furitek. Their new unity motor combines the motor and ESC in one, saving lots of space. But they also have a lot of kickass esc's and a few motor options.

If you want to find some sources for SCX24 stuff, check out this thread.

I can concur on the Furitek...love the setup I put into my scx24, thing is a slow crawling, torque machine

Etsy has some great stuff. Veng RC has great chassis and cage set ups. There are so many. Karnage rc and coop rc has some good ones.
