I was looking online and I found a 7.4v battery that would fit great for my savage x I was curious that if I hooked up that much voltage to the receiver like that would it short my transmitter?? I was also looking at getting Venom 6v 5000mAh 5-Cell Hump Receiver NiMH Battery that I found. Has anybody used that battery is it a good one? Thanks

I use Venom batteries a lot and have no problems. As far as LiPos in a Savage, I'm not really sure what voltage the RX is set for. I do know that Spektrum brand RXs can handles a 2s LiPo.

Actually the 7.4v wasn't one of those long battery for like the rotostart it looked like a 'normal' hump pack battery setup

As far as I know most servos are only rated @6v you may need high volt servos, or just stick with either the venom packs like hamz mentioned or tenergy makes some good cells as well

I know this may be a stupid question but the higher the mAh the "stronger" the battery not voltage wise obvisouly it just has more current...Like that Venom one is was looking at is 5000mAh where most of the battery I have found are around the 1700mAh area. ..Does that cause damage having to high of a number....

Think of mAh as the size of a gas tank. The higher the mAh number the more storage the battery has. This doesn't mean anything for how much energy a battery will discharge at once. For instance... you can have 2 7.4 volt lipo batteries... one is at 5000mAh and the other is 6500mAh... all this means is that the 6500 battery will have longer run times than the 5000 battery. They will both give you 7.4 volts of power. Does this make sense? Thanks

Tom

The 7.4v pack you are looking at is likely a 2s lipo designed for electric rigs, not nitro. You want the 5 cell 6V hump pack you were looking at for that Savage. As mentioned above, most servos are only rated for 6V as well as most factory RX's, putting 7.4v to them will most certainly cause problems.

That does make a lot of sense that. Thank you HPIguy and godale03. I know that I suggest a Venom and hotrodrob mentioned something about tenegry. Are there any other brands that you guys would recommend and where to purchase them. My LHS only has the duratrax one and it's only like a 1200mAh and for the price I can but something off ebay that is twice the mAh and get a charger (which is not included in the LHS one)

So I went to SMC batteries and the only receiver one that I could find was this one http://www.smc-racing.net/index.php?route=product/product&path=67_63&product_id=85
is that a good battery?? It seems to have a very low mAh and also have 6.6v would you recommend it or would you go with something else? Thanks for all the help

Also I wanted to ask I have the TF-40 radio (the 2.4Ghz one) for my savage do they make a rechargeable battery pack that can fit in there??

That is a LiFe cell which is related to LiPo but requires a charger that it is compatible with its chemistry. It can be used without a voltage regulator on most RXs and servos without complications. You will need a bit mAH rating though. I wouldn't run anything with less than 1200 mAH rating in my nitros or gas trucks.

You might try this one:
