I have an SCX24 Deadbolt and I'm looking for another small scale crawler. Does anyone have experience with the AX24? Looks a fair amount more dedicated to crawling. 4ws, more crawler style body. Any feedback would be appreciated, thanks.

Personally I don't care for the style but it is a Axial rig so I'm sure it's decent.
I'm not even sure what upgrade parts are available. .

Here’s ours. The 4ws definitely helps, we converted the black bronco on the shelf to 4ws too. they will crawl up way better then just the front steers

I really like my AX24, really fun little rig. 4 wheel steer ads a lot to it. There are plenty of upgrades available for it. Like any of the Scx24's it can benefit from motor and servo upgrades, but is still quite fun straight from the box.

i let my son trade his Everest 10 for the ax24, he loves it, its pretty cool right out of the box, we haven't done anything to ours yet, but what I've noticed so far is that it tips over pretty easily, top heavy so i want to add some down low weight and extend the axles. it does as well if not better than the axial jeep we have. i am more into larger scale but am pretty sure our next small scale will be a deadbolt as so many people swear by it and love its performance.
i regret buying a few of my rc's after buying and running for a bit. they just end up on the shelf. the ax24 i didnt mind at all, i lost a set of wheels and rims but my son drives the ax much much more than he did the Everest, id recommend it to someone who is looking for a small-scale

Got the brass dif cover and Maxis tires put on. Added brass wheel rings to the fronts. Gotta get shock oil and fit the proline shocks next.

Sorry to pick up an old thread. Going through the same question right now. Bought a stock SCX24 and a stock AX24. Thought my son would like the blue Jeep Gladiator but he goes for the AX24 every time because it crawls over anything. I can usually keep up with my SCX24 but get stuck here and there. Trying to decide what I want to start modifying. Get another AX24 or stick with the SCX24.

I dont care about the scale bodies and such, just want to crawl! Thinking the AX24 might be the direction I take. But I could be convinced otherwise....

The AX24 and the SCX24 Deadbolt are the two most capable Axial mini crawlers straight out of the box. The AX24 has the same advantage as the Deadbolt does over the Gladiator, a lightweight body. The center of gravity is higher on the Gladiator due to the heavier body. You can counter this by adding brass down low to lower the center of gravity, but it puts more stress on the electronics, meaning more upgrades, meaning more money.

Here is the question, do you like tinkering with them, enjoy upgrading? Or do you just want to drive? If the latter I would suggest another AX24. If you like to tinker and have the budget for it you can make the gladiator a lot more capable, but be warned it can get expensive. It's always about finding the perfect balance between capability and affordability and just how capable does it need to be.

Another note, the AX24 tires perform better than the Gadiator. Tires can make a huge difference in a crawlers capability.

You honestly can't go wrong with either one. I have both and modified each a bit differently. In my opinion, again my opinion, the AX24 is a better unit.

Performance wise I agree, the battery position on the AX24 is annoying. The Deadbolt is so close in performance, for less money, you can't really go wrong.
