Normally i am excited about carnage but this time i am pissed. This was the maiden voyage for the AX-10 and i was letting a lady at work drive it in my office over cardboard boxes and little misc crap. Well she is just driving over a box and POP this happens. I am sorely disappointed right now.

Did she at least comfort you after breaking your rig? :green-grin:

i told her a grub screw came out and it was no big deal.

i already bought chromoly ones from sinistar earlier. yota sent me the link too.

Is this a common problem on the AX10?

Does running a slipper eliminate the problem?

its a common problem and a slipper with any firmness whatesoever wouldn't save it. She was driving over cardboard boxes......

I guess I better upgrade now then.

A slipper will help with the problem. The outdrives were designed to be used with axial driveshafts, which function as a shock absorber. By upgrading to the MIP driveshafts, that shock absorber was removed and the outdrives are the weakest link. A slipper is not a guarantee, but it will help in a lot of cases.

Kurt, you mentioned that your rig was really tight and didn't want to freewheel. It almost seems like to me that something might be bound up, and that was putting a lot of stress on the outdrives.

my front end was also in a bind and thats what was causing soo much driveline stress. The cutout where the crosspin sits in the hex is just a hair too deep so when i torqued the wheels nuts, the hex was pressing pretty hard against the bearing. I actually bent one of the MIP crosspins and popped the joint. I repaired it and now everything is great! I am still only front wheel drive but at least she is driveable!

I'm glad you posted, I wanted everyone to know that it wasn't a problem with the truck's driveline out of the box. I thought that the outdrive must have been damaged from the factory, but after talking last night, I realized that the truck left Axial in great condition, it was just that problem that had the drivetrain in a bad bind that put so much stress on the outdrives.

outdrives came in today. took a grand total of 14 minutes to pull the tranny, install the outputs, reinstall the mip shafts and start crawling.

I have been waiting and waiting on these outdrives and after i got them in, i crawled for 4 minutes and then went back to COD4. :)
