ok, got the tc3 kit, I am just a straight line basher and really enjoy building rc cars, not a racer, If you could have the most ridicoulisly powerful, extremely fast, durable, tunable, and largest engine to put into a tc3, what would it be,keyword (speed)
I will tell you why I am so curious later! hehe!

nitromaniac - the gearing, not the engine is what will give u top end speed. u could gear a crap suratrax mill to go twice the speed of the most high performance engine out there.

The new Trinity Nova Rossi Turbo Race .12 is about as crazy as u can get. It produces about 1.54hp over a huge power band, and a whopping 60oz of torque. Yoiu can read more about it in the new issue of RCnitro magazine.

As for gearing - go with the 52 and 48 tooth spur gears and the 24/27 tooth pinion gears. you will need a runway to get up to speed, but it will just keep on getting faster.

great answers! I have been eyeing the nova rossi line for a few weeks now, as for the gearing, the gears you mentioned are all top end gears , I like that but is there a happy medium for gears for that engine as far as off the line punch, a decent mid range and a radical top speed? anyone else wanna crack at this? I am all ears here!

unfortunatly, gearing in any tranny is like a pendulum. If you increase top end, you decrease acceleration. If you increase accel, you decrease top end. you can't have both. check out www.rc10.com for more gearing choices, u can pick a lower gear that is still higher than stock. you asked for the fastest top end, and thats what i gave u. Although the new nova rossi should be a powerful engine, beware of there number one flaw - reliability. With an engine that finicky, plan on rebuilds every gallon of fuel, and re tuning the engine about every hour of run time. I had a Rossi .12 pixie black, and although it was fast, it drove me crazy regarding tuning and reliability. I eventually sold it and went with an OS.

reliabilty?? OK does OS make a similar mill? I am open to options I guess I just want a punchy little car with good top end, at least over 60, is this possible with os and a good gear set up?

keep in mind that most top end speeds are greatly over exagerrated. I posted a thread about 3 months ago about this. We actually had a true radar test at my RC club. Most of the Touring cars with powerful engines were running in the 45-50mph range. with proper gearing, getting them over 60 is possible, but u will lose the low end punch.

Check out the OS .15 cv-r & the Mugen MT.12

I concur with the Mugen. Mugen makes one hell of a mill for the price tag. Very easy to tune and keep a tune. I would put my Mugen MT .12 Bighead right there with my O.S. mills.

I run both and they are both great. I'm sure there are others but I would not know as I do not personally own one that would fit aside from the 2 I just mentioned.
