Good afternoon to all-
So, this morning I decided to do something about one of my little RC planes- my XK Staggerwing biplane which had a problem. The right aileron just stopped working. So I sat down in the bright morning light with the plane and a mini-screwdriver and proceeded to take the little plane apart- it was not flyable, so what harm could I do?
After I got the bottom wing off, I had access to the board and the wiring harness and wouldn't you know, there was a set of wires whose connection had come out of the socket. I securely seated the two ends together, connected the battery, and Fellers, if I'm lyin'- I'm diein', that little aileron control arm worked just fine when I moved the control.
So I put her back together, and there weren't any parts left over- always a good sign.
I took the repaired plane down to the big, open flying field and turned everything on. Takeoff was smooth and easy, and the little yellow biplane flew like a champ. It looked very nice with the very early morning sun reflecting off the wings. I flew until the low-battery alarm went off, and Fellers, with this particular RC plane and controller, when it says "low battery" it means "no battery." So I set my base approach and then final and brought her in and with only a small bounce- or two- landed her right by my car.
I felt quite good about this, and then I noticed that a truck had quietly pulled up along the paved road- that's my landing strip, too- and the folks going to work had watched my successful landing. They waved and smiled as they went past.
I don't do things right very often, and when I do, I enjoy the fact if there's a witness to observe my success.
you all be safe and keep well- Ed
