I got voted the local rc mechanic.. so a friend of a friend brought me a 2wd arrma fury to look at.
Sometimes when you gun the throttle.. it loudly rapidly clicks and doesn't move much. If you ease on the throttle it takes off and runs with no clicking... here what I've found...

Gutted the entire back end of truck.. slipper looks near new and was adjusted 1/4 turn loosened from fully tight.

Rear diff has leaked out all the oil.. gears appear to be perfectly intact without nicks or wear. Diff still has a little oil stuck to gears etc.. so is not completely dry.

Gearbox gears= fine .. spur and pinion fine and adjusted correctly.

Dog bones and cups = no wear that i can see.

Questions. Is the clicking just maybe the slipper because its running a 2s lipo.. and the slipper needs set to almost completely tight?

I dont play with electrics alot... could anything to do with esc be the problem?

Would the diff somehow be skipping since no oil? But that would cause gear damage wouldnt it?

Any other things i should look at?

Thanks as usual guys.

How stiff is the shock load?
The stiffness on the shocks maybe putting a strain on the axles or axles
could be bottoming out inside the diff cups causing the axles to make the clicking noise!

To test the slipper theory, hold it stationary so the tires can't rotate and give it a quick burst of throttle to force the slipper to slip. If you don't see the shaft the slipper is on spin and you still hear the clicking sound, you will know it's the slipper slipping causing the noise.

My brushless revo has solid aluminum slipper pads that ride on a steel slipper plate. When it slips, you can hear it chirp/squeel. With my ejato and stampede, when it slips you just hear a high pitched whine. Both of those rigs have composite slipper pads.

Can't hear much of anything when the slipper slips on m y nitro rigs. Well, nothing other than the exhaust. LOL!

good point cbaker... this setup could be allowing a arms to interfere with dogs bones depending on where shocks are any given moment.

Yeah I will test the slipper theory today when I get a chance as well.

Being able to actually hear a slipper is weird for me, since I've only always ran nitro. The first few times I heard it on my ERBE I was like 'WTF WAS THAT NOISE?!?!". Same with the stampede. The ERBE is a very high pitched squeal. Freaked me out! LOL!
