Mrs. Littlemotor has been super patient while I gain as much practice as possible on my own garbage before attempting hers.. 🤣 Sooooooo many fluorescents, transparents, pearls, and effects that are FAR above my paygrade on this one.. Nuthin’ to it but to do it, I reckon..😅🤷🏻‍♂️ C’monnnnnnnn ice cream!!! 🤣
Congrats on the ride. Live the color scheme.

Even with a .8 needle I am going to need to upgrade my compressor. I am thinking about grabbing a little Makita portable. Or at least grab the no-name branded one with the tank from SG. My current airbrush compressor doesn't do too well with even a .5 needle because it doesn't have a tank. I am thinking about maybe grabbing a tank to just plumb into the feed line if nothing else. But it does just fine with anything under .5, so I don't really need it at the moment. My '67 Mustang body for our drag Slash really pushed it to its limits though.

But your work on your bodies has me wanting to spray something, so I may get out some speed shapes or a Tamiya body I have here and play around with some liquid mask and try some paint effects. Or maybe see if I can produce some better real fire. I know I could do a pretty cool tear off paintjob, it's just getting off my butt and doing it.
Well I certainly appreciate the kind words, and am glad I could assist in motivation/inspiration for someone else to get bit by the artsy-fartsy paintwork bug! Seems to me like you’ve got a lot of what you need already, and like ya say-either add a tank, or grab a small contractor grade compressor that’s hopefully on the quiet side for your neighbors (and yourself lol).. I’ll need to grab a better AB unit in time, but for now-I’m gonna run this one into the ground.. It’s what the old man would’ve wanted me to do.. I’ve got another small AB that’s tankless, but I haven’t even bothered to give it a whirl.. I figured if the minitank shiits the bed before I can grab a more quality unit-I can use it for parts, or even just add the tank from the one I’m using, and roll on.. I know SG has the No Name’s, and they list them on Amazon as well. Possibly be able to find them on sale on the ‘zon through SG now and then.. Maybe even eBay? 🤔🤷🏻‍♂️ If you’re anything like me-you want as cheap as possible while still being fairly reliable, and not loud AF if at all possible.. I know the small contractor grade trim nailer pancake style compressors used to be pretty damned loud, but can be gotten like new from fakebook marketplace or Craigslist for like $20-$30…😳 Almost makes the noise tolerable lol..

Congrats on the ride. Live the color scheme.

Thanks Chewy! Chuy? Chooooowhee? Ahhh fugitives-you know what I’m tryin’ to say..🤷🏻‍♂️🤣

That looks like a thread that certainly produces some serious fruit! I’ll be skimming through that from time to time for sure my dude! 🤙🍻🥦

More progress… Waiting on paint/UVLS clear to mingle… Still working..

😉🍻🤘
Loving those colors. I should be able to start playing with some designs tomorrow. I just put the 4th coat of liquid mask on my speed shapes, so one more to go and I can start playing around.

Hellyeah brotha!! I was out of commission for a couple hours when “Little Debbie” knocked out our power… Back on now, and I’ve been hard at it, making up for lost time.. Guess it’s gonna be another late ass night… Looking forward to hearing/seein’ how ya make out over there! 🤩

I finally stopped being a slackass, and got a lil’ sumthin’ hammered out…🤷🏻‍♂️😅

Turned out alright, and she’s freakin’ STOKED. 🤘🍻

Really need some DAYLIGHT through the kitchen for more pics… The artificial lighting SUUUUUUCKS…

Time for an hour or so of hanging custom decals now… More to come in a bit. 🤩

I like the paint job! Looks good, I really would love to add one to my arsenal!
Thanks so much brother! I was super nervous about knocking this one out, as it’s Mrs. Littlemotor’s truck lol…😅 That being said-I’m definitely not gonna be stopping paintwork any time soon! 🤘🍻

It looks great, nice color choices and designs. Did you use a stencil or freehand that?

Little baby sized update…

So when I converted all of these 2.0’s to the 2.1 buggy front spindles, carriers, etc., I went with a longer outer Mugen (on two), or Associated (on one) camber link/rod end so I’ve still got plenty of thread engagement on all of my titanium turnbuckles.. Well, in doing this, I noticed what I felt to be a bit more slop than normal, and dig into it… Tekno is known for OVERbuilding damned near everything, and I mean they do call ‘em TANKno’s for a reason…🤷🏻‍♂️😅

Unbelievably-they actually broke away from the norm with their pivot balls, and DECREASED the OD as compared to literally every other 1/8 race vehicle from the standard 7mm, to 6.8mm..🙄

Now .2mm may not be a lot, but I can assure you that in a “ball & socket” retention arrangement with a the decreased OD of a SPHERE, well-it IS, a lot.. Mugen has superseded their OG balls with a newer part number, and there is some discrepancy on what size they are among distributors.. Associated’s are indeed 7mm, but they’re only sold as a package with ALL ball studs/links/pivot balls, and I only need (2) total per vehicle, and their price is higher than Giraffe nuts, ANNNNNND, I’d have to buy (3) packages… LAME…

So I got on Beach RC, and found JQ Racing has them available in Steel, and Aluminum, and in packs of (4)… $12.95 a piece for the aluminum’s. Sold buddy! 🤩 -Toss (2) packs in my cart, and my total is $6 and some change… OK, what the hell is going on here… Are they sold out of one? No-that’d still be twice my current subtotal.. I look again, and they are on sale for $3 and some change each!!!! 😳😍

So anyhow-I got this crap sorted, and now all (3) of my Tekno Truggies are riding on JQ’s big, black, balls….🤣🤣🤣

If you know anything at all about Joseph Quagraine-he loves saying balls… And clowning people about their balls, his balls, her balls, pillow balls… it’s a thing, lol…

Anyhow, here’s some photos for your viewing pleasure. I did both of mine already a couple nights ago, and saved Mrs. Littlemotor’s to do for “show and tell”.. It looks better than my junk anyhow 🙄🤷🏻‍♂️.. I’m just gonna generically copy, and paste this over to my “twins” build thread as well because if anyone following that thread wants to do that modification; this is absolutely a requirement.

And “toight like a toiguhhhhh”… Or as tight as a fresh re-build on any race truggy typically is.. Back in bidness! 🍻🤘

Oh... Mitutoyo digital calipers. A man after my own heart. I have some nice 8" SPI Dial calipers as well, but they are inch graduation. I used to have about $4000 worth of Mitutoyo stuff. 0-3" digital carbide faced micrometers. Ohh shiney.

Good info on your balls man. That'll come in handy 🤣

Yessir-tough to beat Mitu’s anymore, and I’ve got several sets. I actually was a big fan of Starrett’s out in the shop, and Mitu’s in the cleaner room areas.. Even got several no-name’s I inherited from my old man, that I use on occasion, and are plenty accurate for my needs..

And yessir!! My balls are good to go now lol! 🤣

I had one drawer of my tool box with $10,000 worth of Starrett alone. I was like a collector of their stuff. I had the nice vernier calipers up to 24". Precision bevel gage with the obtuse attachments, some really rare mics, and all kinds of specialty measuring tools. Had to sell it all cheap when I became disabled.

It’s easy to do… Believe me-I’ve been there once or twice with shiit situations, and dumped some tools I REALLY didn’t want to.. It makes ya wanna puke, but sometimes is a necessity to be better off…🥹🤷🏻‍♂️ sure doesn’t make it suck any less though…

Nosir-all freehand by me, minus the faded honeycomb.. 🍻🤘
I mean, it looks like there's a film on the inside of the body also?? That red tint

I'm trying to get into air brushing and painters tape is testing my patience lol

Ahhhhhhh-I gotcha now bud! That’s the liquid mask that I apply after cutting out, and washing the body. Then I draw my graphics out on the protective outer film, cut every last line, and peel each layer as needed until it’s finished.. Then I back it all with Wicked Opaque White, then Createx 4050 UVLS Clear, as a sealer. Then remove the outer factory provided overspray film, and run it! 🍻🤘
