Today, I downgraded my Traxxas Slash from my Brushless setup to the stock for this weekend for a Spec Slash Class. Earlier, I ran it for about 10 minutes on my 7 Cell 8.4V 5000 maH battery, and it worked fine. Then just a little bit ago in my house, I ran it very slowly for about 5 minutes, and I smelled a burning smell, and I immediately shut it off. The battery wasn't hot, but the motor was pretty warm. I smelled the ESC and it did smell like it was burning. What would the cause be of this? I am running 19/86 gearing by the way.

I remember back when there was the mechanical speed controls that had ceramic low-speed resistors, they would stink the house up if you ran it around at low speed for a few minutes. That esc may not like low speed running for very long just like the old mechanical ones.

Maybe that's true Boogie. I was running it slow just to test something...and then the next day, outside it was perfect.

i had that same smell when i run mine in the house or slow outside, plus it makes that realy bad noise as well. i would just run it a little faster and smell went away.

Sounds like the motor is under to much of a load creeping. For example: You take a electric motor turn it on and keep the motor from spinning, it will get hot and eventually mass-distruction will accur.
