i had a fuel/air leak where the fuel tube goes into the carb. the master needle was loose, and when it had got to a half tank of gas, air got into the lines, and it had died. so i had hand tightened it back up, put on a fuel filter, new fuel lines, and put on a new air filter thinking i was getting ready to have fun. well it wont start for anything. so i had put a new plug in it. nothing. re-charged the plug warmer. nothing. put in another plug. still nothing. can't figure it out, and the LHS can't either. so here i am, looking for any help. and i now have blisters from the pull start. thanks in advance for all and any help.

How cold is it outside in Elgin? If it is particularly cold (ie less than say 40 degrees farenheit), you may need to warm the engine up first with a blow dryer. Cold starts are hard. They are even harder when the outside air temp is really cold.

It might still need to be warmed up with a hair dryer, but we'll look into some of the other issues.

You mentioned that when it got to half a tank of fuel that air got into the lines and it died. Did you replace the fuel tank?

When you tightened down the HSN, did you perhaps overtighten it? Overtightening the HSN can cause it to compress into the carb, basically damaging the HSN and blocking off fuel flow.

When you prime the engine, do you see fuel actually moving through the fuel lines and making it to the carb?

What kind of fuel filter did you install? Somtimes they are one-way flow filters...this would stop fuel from going through it.

fuel does go through the lines. also i had tried it with the filter off. i then had taken the plug out, and hooked it to the plug warmer, and you can see the fuel burn off. I'm not doing anythin different to start it from before. as far as it being too tight, i had tried to back it off, and it had leaked fuel again. so i had re-tightened it. one LHS said that the engine might have gone bad, but it had run perfectly before i had tried ti fix it. today, the car did run for 1 sec, but that was it.

When you say you tried to fix the engine, what exactly did you do to try and fix it? The stuff listed above only deals with getting fuel to the engine and the plug deals with igniting the fuel. Did you do anything else?

BTW, what engine are we talking about?

it might just be runnin too rich i cause i was havin this same prob with it not starting after i broke in my MAXX 2 days ago my LSN was also too rich but atleast i dont have a pullstart or i would have gone crazy trying to get the mixtures right

When you check the glo plug in the ignitor, does it shine bright white or just dull red?

If it is not white or near white, the plug may not be getting hot enough to start her up. Either recharge the ignitor, put a new battery in it or get a new plug. I know, you said that you have done many of these things. BUT ... we may not have known what we were supposed to see.

If the needles are back to factory settings, then you need to richen up the HSN just a smidge (maybe 1/4 - 1/2 a turn) Most engines are set at the factory for temps well above what you are working with (like 70 - 80).

Further, I would still give the engine about two minutes of heat from a good hot hair dryer (borrow your wife or girl friends's and tell her it is for a good cause :D ).

Once the engine is all toasty, prime it and give it a couple of tries.

well, the hair dryer had worked!!!it fired up in 5 pulls. but i had broke the pull start. i had got to drive it down the drive way. i had thought that i had let it warm up enough, but it had died. i think I'm going to buy a starter box. that is the 2nd pull start that i had gone through. thanks for the help.
