Technically speaking , are the Sledge and Kraton in the same vehicle class as the Tekno ET48 2.2? They’re all truggies , right? I know the Tekno is a superior RC. Just wondering if they’re all considered truggies.
All truggies-yes.
The Traxxas, and Arrma are direct competitors, as they’re RTR grade bash truggies. More along the lines of monster trucks with a center differential, and lengthened chassis. I wanna say the Sledge has some proprietary chassis design/layout (but could be wrong-as I’ve never inquired), and the Kraton is a more traditional truggy style chassis, but with some extra bracing to be “bashable”.. These vehicles are obviously MUCH heavier, and offer much less efficient drivelines as well. Often times, A Sledge or Kraton on 6s, wouldn’t even come close to keeping up with a 4s race grade truggy from about ANY manufacturer because of this. A well set up race kit on 4s has MORE than enough power to be put to the ground, as do 1/8 nitro truggies today. A 6s basher trugg, is just heavier, clumsier, and has even MORE power that can’t be put down… And they take waaaaaay more room to stop, or change directions laterally speaking..
Traxxas, Arrma, and Team Corally are all direct competitors, and in the same RTR class IMHO, with a couple pre-assembled RTR grade “rollers” that come with no electronics in attempt to keep RTR guys from moving to kit grade vehicles. This is the latest trend from the “big three” RC advertising manufacturers.
Then comes Hobao, whom has been around for a lonnnng time too, has lonnnnng offered “rollers”, some actual kits as well, and is likely the highest quality of the big RTR giants today. They STILL offer complete RTR’s currently, and typically at a better price point, than those mentioned above as they don’t spend gazillions on commercials, advertising, and ludicrous 6s, and 8s options. There are still quite a few Pro Level racers that drive Hobao buggies, and truggies in 1/8, as well as in “mini-truggy”.
I feel I should also address the race grade kit manufacturers whom offer RTR’s in their line up.. Most of these are soooo watered down, that even though they share a select few commonalities-MOST parts aren’t even interchangeable with kit grade without modification. Some companies (talking to you; Kyosho

) will even skimp on the entire hardware side of things to bring the price down.. This means cheesediick Phillips fasteners, archaic AF E-Clips, and extremely subpar fastener materials. -NONE of which have any business in RC-let alone; 1/8 off-road. Then you’ve got garbage 6061 chassis’ rather than 7075, 6061 shock bodies (or worse; PLASTIC), funky layouts that don’t coincide what so ever with their kit version, and absolute TRASH electronics that you’re actually paying for to use one time, and replace because the gearset in your servo is junk. They’ll also use Deans rip-off T-connectors that are an absolute fire hazard, the worst transmitter you’ve ever held, and atrocious, often times unusable tires and wheels. They’ll use subpar plastics throughout, that aren’t the same material as their kit stuff, cast “metal” or even PLASTIC diff gears, and dog bones, rather than universals, or CVD’s, housed in CAST outdrives.. It goes on, and on.. At the end of the day-for MOST of these vehicles-you’re simply paying for the manufacturer’s NAME. They’re really bad.. The only two I’d EVER recommend (which have their caveats as well), would be the Serpent SRX8 buggy, or the Sworkz Apollo II buggy.. Change out some connectors, go through the diffs, and shocks with your own fluids, swap out the steering servo for something more suitable, and grab a set of wheels, and tires.
The Tekno is a 100% race bred, designed, and engineered competition vehicle.
