I just like getting opinions from people who know what they’re talking about. I know I just got my MT10 and I love it. But I can’t help myself from looking at some 1/8 scale vehicles. Early Christmas shopping. A Tekno truggy or Sworkz Apollo buggy appeal to me.

Speaking of opinions , do these screwdrivers look decent for basic RC use?

Should be fine. Tekton isn’t horrible, and they won’t see much duty.. 👍

And what is the exact Tekno 1/8 scale truggy model I should be looking at?
It’s not been released yet. According to Tekno-it’s 2-3wks out. Legitimately. Don’t listen to the “2 weeks!” assclown trollers.. It’ll either be the ET48 2.1, or ET48 2.2. I have the ET48 2.0, and NT48 2.0 trucks outfitted with all the new stuff.

“ET48”= electric truggy 48? And I can pick any motor/esc and radio?

Correct. ElectricTruggy4wd8thScale

You can. Tekin, and Hobbywing would be the favorites for motor and ESC. You’ll want a “Truggy Can” motor, and anywhere from 1900-2250kV.

If I were new to the hobby-I’d want someone to refer me to a quality “mid range” radio & receiver. That would be anything around the $400 price point. That being said-the Noble NB4+ is hands down what I would go with. It’s far higher quality than any “mid range” transmitter setup from the big boys, and roughly the same price, or lower.. and Receivers are a dime a dozen. This way you can install several receivers into your rides, and use one radio.

I’ve personally been a Tekin, and Futaba guy since the mid 80’s..

This is all great info. Thank you. I’ll be looking into motors , radios and receivers over the next few days.
Also , you said the Sworkz Apollo buggy was well beyond any other RTR buggy around. Even the Armma “TLR tuned” Tyohon?

Futaba, boy that takes me back. Only ever had one, Magnum Jr. AM crystal, 6' antenna, LOL. Still got that sucker! Never even considered a $400 radio, not once. To each their own of course.
I'm very content with the TC Torox 185 esc (Max8) and Tenshock 2200kv 4274 sensorless in my MT48. I'm into that combo for around $180. The Tenshock motor is about 13 years old. Been in several 1/8 truggies. Can't fix what ain't broke. Makes me wish I knew someone with a high dollar system so I could see what all the fuss is about. Maybe not, LOL. 🍻

Yes, by far.

The Sworks Apollo RTR is the one for me. And I’m still amazed at the price.

Many pages ago in this lengthy thread , someone mentioned Corally RC. What’s the consensus on them? They don’t seem as popular as other brands.

My Kagama is a beast... if I were looking to add a 1/8 buggy (they're not for me), I'd be all over the Asuga at RC Hobby Explosion, just to keep it in the same spares family, as I suspect they share some parts.

$339 for the roller, after their $40 coupon.

Asuga

I wouldn't, but am pretty confident their plastics are better. Unfortunately that's the only place the Sledge wins. We have all the usual suspects here between my brother and I. The Sledge underperforms, diffs suck, hinge pins and shock caps break. Driveshafts too. It's weird, cuz the 2, 3, 4 and 8s are solid, but the Sledge just doesn't impress. E Revo either. I imagine the Slash 6s is decent, but seems like Traxxas does better with the plastic than metal based rc's.
K6 vs Sledge, I feel the K6 is the easy choice. I complain of slop, but it is a basher, so most don't care about the slop. Since we run a track, we're more critical.
I should add that after spending $800 on the Sledge, and another $3-400 in upgrades, my bro thinks his Sledge is a beast. I's say it's a tank, and runs like one too, slow and steady. LOL.
What do you mean by “slop”?

Freeplay (slop) in the arms, namely the front uppers at the inner hinge pins for the Arrma 8s an TC 6s rigs. The Arrma Kraton 8s I can move the front upper hubs fore/aft about 3-4mm, right out of the box. I see similar in all my Arrma rc's. Traxxas doesn't have as much slop. Tekno and Xray are definitely on another level in regards, though the Tekno truggy does get sloppy in the front lowers quicker than I'd hoped for. Is what it is.

I see. I’m still interested in trying out an Arrma sometime (Typhon or Kraton). I really like that Sworkz Appollo RTR buggy but I think it’s 2wd. I’d prefer 4wd if given a choice.

Um-no it’s not… it’s got a center diff…
