I'm glad you decided to take the plunge and go with a kit!!! Your challenges will be rewarded with a build like this.
Be sure to ACTUALLY READ the manual and go slowly.
Don't skimp on things like loktite and green slime during assembly and you WILL love your new build!

Tekno absolutely does have the best manual in the business… That’s out of my over 35yrs in the hobby… They’re phenomenal..

And @PainKiller MIP TOOLS or nothing. It’s a buy once, cry once kind of thing.. There are only a couple drivers that even come close. The difference is MASSIVE, and these things do see a LOT of meintenance, and are literally 90% tiny screws lol..

I only use thread locker for metal 2 metal. I used some CA glue on my E Revo pivot balls, kept backing out of the arms.. worked, too good. Now I can't get them out!!

THIS is the only thread lock you want for a race grade 1/8 off-road kit, PERIOD.

Use brakekleen to remove machine oil from fasteners before use. I leave it on (the machine oil) anything going into plastic.

Yeah, @Littlemotor i use one like this and a little tube of liquid and they've done well for me.
This is the same brand. I think i said loktite if it matters.

Lol! Sometimes I feel stupid after I make a suggestion for a product like this and then I get stomped on because I'm 20 years in the dark, product outdated!
Oil and lubricants def did this to me.
Like 30 years ago, the best shock oil I knew of was Tamiya "lightweight"
I don't want to mislead nor be left in the dark myself!

Nah, forgettaboutit!! Threadlocker is threadlocker, proper prep will make or break ya. Shock and diff oils, I always grab whatever 100% silicone is cheapest. I have shocks and diffs that haven't been opened in years that still do their jobs. Maybe not to their best, but good nuff for me. Just a hobby to me. As long as it puts smiles on my face, I'm good.

I wouldn’t feel stupid lol.. New fancy stuff comes out daily that we haven’t all heard about, and sometimes the stuff that you’ve had tremendous results with since day one is all you’ll ever need!

Lol! I'm not totally stuck on name branding, I like to be accurate when I recommend a product.
I just fear my typo will make someone buy kookoo cola instead of coke and that doesn't usually go well... that sort of thing.
I bought a big bottle of silicone oil from ebay and it works perfect for me. Lol!
It says pure, so unless its not pure, I can't imagine how its possible for 1 company to be "better" than another. I dunno.
There was something about medical grade for like implants and stuff but thats all I could find.
My shocks work great AND they look DYNAMITE in a bikini!

I’m all about Rustler 4x4 Ult but the Typhon TLR looks nice too.

I learned that TLR stood for “Team Losi Racing” and that Losi is connected to Arrma. That’s why they made the upgrades for the Typhon. Using the word “associated” was not in reference to the RC brand. Bad verbiage on my part.

No-you are correct.

Losi, or now known as “TLR” (Team Losi Racing), and Arrma are both owned by Horizon Hobby.

Team Associated is of no relation to any of the three, and are owned by Thunder Tiger.

The Losi rtr stuff seems a lower grade, likely made in China. I'd like to believe TLR is at least Taiwanese? Do make a difference I feel. Traxxas is Taiwan, and I do feel it shows through in the parts and build categories.

To replace/upgrade a radio on an RTR , do you just remove the stock receiver , replace it with a new one and “bind it” (just learned that term) to the new radio?

Do aftermarket radios come with receivers? What if the new receiver is a different size than the stock one? How do you know if it’ll fit?

As long as it’s not a 2 in 1 esc receiver (I don’t think anything you are looking at will be though) yes just swap the receiver out and calibrate your esc to it. Most radios will come with one receiver, you can get more receivers and bind multiple vehicles to one radio

Shouldn’t have an issue fitting most receivers in the box on the truck

One more thing will be to set the servo endpoints on the radio too

Their “70’s & 80’s” 1/10 stuff cannot be compared to anything else imho… Yeah-lots of us were introduced to the surface RC hobby with them, but it takes a LOT to compete against the big boys like Yokomo, Associated, Schumacher, etc.. I know, I know, “but Joel Johnson bro!”… That dude was a LEGEND, and the level of Jammin Jay Halsey, or Masami Hirosaka, and that Ultima was NOT your dad’s Ultima lol… I mean the majority of the 1/10 stuff they made with the awesome box art, etc.. The stuff that clearly looked like it came from the 70’s, and 80’s…well because it DID lol… And hellyes it’s fragile compared to an RC10, JRX2, or YZ10… But in case anyone has bumped their head, or forgotten-those cars were pretty fakkin fragile TOO lol… just not AS fragile, and were absolutely more capable/competitive.. You just cannot compare. turbo Scorpion or OG Javelin to an RC10, or super dogfighter… it’s apples to oranges imo. But I DO love them none the less..

As far as what I was talking about though-their “current” 1/8 stuff; while they haven’t been anything but barely revised since 2006, they are absolutely top tier stuff.. They just work so well, and are KNOWN for being incredibly easy to drive/predictable, that Kyosho hasn’t HAD TO release anything new… And I won’t touch one of their RTR’s as the quality isn’t even CLOSE to the same (see Philips screws, and subpar plastics/CAST or thin aluminum, etc.), but I would absolutely love to have a TKI4 car AND truck.. That K-car “TAX” suuuuuuuuucks though… Start adding up the upgradesption parts for a Kyosho 1/8, and you’ll see what I mean… They end up HUNDREDS more than an Xray even…
