Paint question : how many 1/10 RC truck bodies can a 100ml can of Tamiya spray paint do? Is it one body per can? And since I’ll be painting it from the inside , I guess there’s no primer needed on polycarbonate bodies since the primer would show.

Nah- Like one can will do a body. I do 3 coats, so one can.

So 3 coats per body. And one can will do the 3 coats?
On a 1/10, yep. My 1/7, eh, well depends on the body & my what I'm after. Those may need 2 cans. I like to paint thick & back with another. I have one 1/7 body that has three color layers, 10 coats. Lasts a loooong time. 👍

You REALLY should watch a BUNCH of vids about painting!
Def no primer BUT a backer IS used!
This is new territory.
A few pointers from our "wisers" is def in order!
Search "how to paint lexan" here and DEF watch a vid or 10!
Its not a big deal to do but it is easy to mess up.
Warming cans, masking 'the right way', prep work ALL play into a good paint job!

Can't wait to see the first work! (And mercilessly heckle it! 🤣)

You CAN do this if I CAN do this!
Have fun!!! 😎👍

No doubt, but I won’t deny myself some fun for fear of plastics breaking, LOL.
Winter time running was always a balance of "warm" cold days and how generous Santa was with spare parts that year! 🤣

I will start watching some painting vids on YT tonight for sure.

This is a good example. With the same red color, a 3rd coat of black or of white would make the body look differently.
Also, I sort of mis-spoke about the primer.
You can buy pearl clear and I think a few other "effects" that go down before the color coats.

@Littlemotor is a paint guru!
@WickedFog has also done some nice work.
There are lots of other ppl who are total whizzes with paint too!
Its an art I've yet to perfect but I know enough to make them look ok with a rattle can.
An airbrush IS on the list though! 👍

I go by “how long can I take it”, meaning the cold. I don’t worry about the cold’s affect on the rc!🤣 Honestly I’m very impressed by how well the rc’s cope, my fingers not so much. I’m good till about 15F without wind, but I live in the hills and my property is at the top of one, so wind is always a factor. I don’t wear gloves for rc’ing either, so that hampers run times more often than anything else.

I have used rattle cans on a couple bodies. The Tamiya paints are pretty good, but uber expensive for how little paint is in their cans. And the way I spray, on a 1/10 body, you might have just enough to get the job done. I have put 3 coats of black on, and holding it up to the light, they still needed one or two more coats, but the can was empty.

If you're doing an SCT body, they will definitely take 2 cans. And that gets expensive. Not to mention after you get all your paint down, you should still come back with a backer coat, like white.

That's why an airbrush setup will pay for itself. One bottle of Parrma Faskolor will do a number of bodies, at only about $9/bottle. Because with an airbrush, you waste very little paint from overspray. And because of that, and it's water based, cleanup is a piece of cake, and you can spray indoors.

But if you just want to paint a body, ain't nothing wrong with grabbing some rattle cans. I would suggest you buy one extra can of your base color, just in case.

Whether airbrushing, or using rattle cans, always prep the body by washing in warm soapy water. You can also use a scouring pad with light pressure to just barely scuff up the body. Runse and let it dry completely. And always spray the first couple coats really light, and let them dry for about 10 minutes. Then start getting heavier.

I did neglect to account for the frostbite factor! 🤣
I guess at the point that all my stuff was charged and ready, jacket and snowpants like Randy...

I just figured if I could get both hands on the radio, there was NO WAY I was gonna let go! ( until I was thawed 🤔)

We get some blast of wind that have caused damage but being on a hill top is just non-stop!!!😐

You're going to find videos that go into
extreme depth about putting down "the perfect paint job" and they are prob all correct and right...
I just wanted to show you how sometimes you can "slam" a paint job on a body (once proper prep is finished) and get some great results!

Its a crazy technique!!! 🤣

That's awesome! A custom paint job "I" can even do!? LOL. Might have to try that some time. I don't get into the artistic side of the hobby much, but I do like having something that looks different than the other 100k black EXB Arrma's out there..

He makes this look SO easy! How could I NOT try this??? 🤣
I like the finished paint job! It makes me laugh that it only takes 5 mins! 🤣

I believe bodies that fit the Stampede 4x4 will fit the MT10 so I’m gonna get a couple Proline bodies and an MT10 stock body (clear) and have at it with the paint. This will all happen after the holidays when things settle down. I’ll be taking some vacation time in January so this will be a great project for then.

I have a pair of of scissors that the wife wore out in the kitchen, that I “rescued” from the landfill. LOL. Betty Crocker’s!😜 Those, a die grinder w/cut-off wheel and deburring bit I use to “shape” my bodies with, finnish work with a 4” grinder and 120 grit.. which is also why you won’t see me entering any ROTM entries, LOL. 🤣🍻
