my friends want to get into the sport and they want mts. the thing is that we all like to be different though. they don't know what to get and asked me. i have a revo and t-maxx, and my friend has a savage so it has to be something different than that. out of these which do you guys think would be best.

losi lst
trinity spyder
duretrax warhead?
hpi nitro mt2
hb lightning stadum

there new to the sport so it has to be an rtr and easy to maintain, and durable. price is not a factor at this time so tell me what you guys think.

Just curious why no Associated MGT?

Anyways, if money isn't a serious consideration, I'd do the LST. You have that really nice radio which you never have to buy crystals for. Since there are so many channels to choose from, You guys won't have to worry who's on what channel.

I would say the only two that aren't in the same category (IMO) is the HPI and the HB. I don't personally consider those MTs

Otherwise I think the Spyder and the Warhead would be interesting pics as well....

If it has to be all those things you said above then his choice has to be T_maxx or Savage....don't lead him to get another MT just to be different....sometimes doing the same thing makes it easier on all of you.....just think about this scenario: Oh man I broke another stupid turnbuckle,Hey joe do you have a spare?.......Sure do Man but I have a LST cause we all had to be different........Get the picture?

plaidfish, i agree with everything you said. before my friend got my savage i told him to get the maxx, because that is what i had, and i knew more about the maxx, but he went and got the savage any. but i was telling both my friends the same thing, get a savage or revo. that way we are familiar which each others trucks.

ApriliaRacer the Associated MGT was out of the picture because i haven't heard the many good things about it. even the guy at the lhs said it was a pile. And i also don't consider the hpi and hb as mts either but it was just to give my friends more options.

Like you know and Aprilia said, the mt2 isn't really a MT. It's quick and agile, but better suited to a track. I have the older version (nitro MT) which is a fun little truck. But, the ground clearance is low, the truck is light, everything is smaller and it's not as tough as a typical MT. I have a savage for my heavy bashing duties and the MT was a recent development that I'm putting time and $ into for something different to have.

i went to the lhs today and saw the mt2 for the first time in person. i didn't relize that it was so small and low to the ground. so that one is out of the picture unless there is a way to set it up for bashing.

any more opinions on which truck for them to get.

man I got a smokin deal on a brand new kyosho madforce on ebay for $289. Just started breakin it in today, so far it seems really quick. Too bad the temps in my area are in the teens right now. I've had a savage SS,tmaxx 2.5,and a mammoth. if your into bashin, can't go wrong with the savvy it's built like a tank. Mammoth, too poopy to even drive. Tmaxx, you know the story. The spyder looks cheap and generic IMO. The losi is nice, but alot of money, plus I haven't seen one in person. The HB is nice, it's more of a truggy, but it will handle geat and will be durable. Plus you could prolly use the ofna 2speed for their buggy on it.

LST or a Savage

LST, great radio, no issues over frequencies. and everything is BIG!

Savage will take a lick, and still tick

I have to laugh as this is so true. Everytime I take it out it breaks something that keeps me from driving it, whether its totally destroying the front diff, bending the chassis, or stripping the 2-speed tranny gear (twice).

I'd consider the AE MGT. I've got one and while I think the Savage is probably the best all-around basher, the MGT is pretty tough too. Other than breaking the bumpers, its been pretty good to me...

I keep breaking the bumper mounts on my savage... the front ones keep splitting on me.

After the 4 spider mod and a few misc mods, it's pretty stable though.

so nothing good said about the spyder. i thought it looked pretty cool with the tires being so big. it looked ready to bash. but thanks for all your guys and hopefully my friends get one soon.

Xtreme RC Magizine did a review on the Spyder. I took away from the article that it was underpowered and I can't remember what else. Sorry, as I was typing it completely left my brain.

I'll read the article again tonight and see if there's anything else thats bad. As of this second, all I remember is that Xtreme said it appeared that trinity geared it to the moon to get a high top speed but sacrificed a lot of off the line power, so it seems really gutless and is hard to manuver around a track through ramps and whatnot due to the lack of low end.

I saw the Team Losi LST at the LHS last night. BIG!!!! Holy smokes the thing is huge, Losi calls it an 1/8 scale, but it made the savages (1/8) look puny. Each front tire has a JR 590 (high tourque) for steering. Two seperate places built in for rx packs, big fuel tank....everything BIG, BIG, BIG.

The shocks are probably 1" in diameter, heck a shock rebuild would take at least two bottles, maybe more.

I'm not reccomending as I have never seen one in action, but it looks well built to me.

If you are all about BIG, then this is the truck for you!

Mr T

i was watching a vid on the losi yesterday and the rumors are true on the weak a-arms. seems like if the jump is big at all then they will break. seems like it would be one heck of a truck though with some rpm arms. but the new savage ss looks like it is going to be the truck to beat.
