Hey all,

I thought it would be better to document my journey here, rather than keep littering the Tekno RC introduces the new MT48 2.0 monster truck thread with my inane questions :) I decided against posting it in the RC Builds and Projects sub-forum because I'm unlikely to photograph and document every part of the process.

I ordered my new Tekno MT48 2.0 yesterday, and now comes the arduous part of choosing which bits to get for it.

Tekno Option Parts

TKR9688 – Chassis/Shock Tower Brace (MT48 2.0)
TKR9117 – Spur Gear (44t, hardened steel, EB/ET48 2.0)
TKR4175 - M5 Pinion Gear 15t, MOD1, 5mm bore, M5
TKR9149 – Differential Cross Pins (2.0, 6pcs)
TKR5253B – Aluminum Servo Horn 25T spline, 2 hole
TKR8702 – Shock Caps (7075, emulsion/vented/standard, black ano, 2pcs)
TKR6013B – Shock Adjustment Collars (short, aluminum, GUN METAL ano, 2pcs)
TKR5122 – Steering Rack Bushings (aluminum, gun metal anodized, 2pcs)
TKR9433 – Rear Arm Mud Guards (lexan, ET/NT48 2.0) <-- Does anyone know if these will withstand abuse from stones?

I was going to get front and rear sway bars, but Tekno told me that they're fairly pointless if you're not running on high grip surfaces.

Electronics

The car will only be used on 4S. I'm struggling because I want waterproof and sensored ESC & motor. Unfortunately Tekno say on their website that the Hobbywing EzRun MAX8 G2S ESC won't fit, probably because the sensor wire comes out the side of it. @Ramp addict said he'd let me know next week if the MAX8 fits since that's the one he plans on fitting. @Ramp addict decided to use a Castle Monster 2 + 1515 setup instead.

This pretty much leaves the Castle Monster X combo as the only choice for now, and it's the one that AMain Hobbies used in their video. Unfortunately for me, it's horribly expensive and a special order item here in the UK.

I've ordered the 9imod BLS-HV51MG 51KG 180 servo. If it fails I can always replace it with something more premium like an EcoPower 250T, AGFRC A81BMWP or similar. Tekno confirmed in an email that the max height is 37.8mm but some YouTubers have fitted ~40mm tall servos.

I've ordered the Flysky FS-G11P transmitter which includes the FS-R11P receiver.

Body

I've ordered the Monster Maxx from Basher Bodies.

Tyres

Arrma DBoots Backflip LP 4S, of course :)

Super excited!

For me, the Lexan "mud guards" would be useless against pebbles, but could be used as a template... 1mm carbon fiber sheet 💪 & Dr. Emel.

They make one heck of racket with pebbles bouncing off of them, but protects shock shafts most excellent. Five years and counting.

FWIW-I’m talking to my boy @ Tekno Ti as we speak, and he said he will possibly consider shipping to the UK for the skids. I just did all the legwork to verify 100% that the Titanium skids for the SCT410 2.0 that he makes will cover the new MT48 2.0 as well sir! 🍻🤘

He does them in natural, and torched. He can also be talked into tons of different anodize options, as well as Cerkoted.

I run them on ALL of my vehicles. They work FAR better than aluminum, or stainless steel. MUCH cheaper than $100+ chassis… 😎

That’s a great idea, thanks! I bought the carbon fibre mud guards for my Kraton from M2C, and the pinging noise is awesome :)

I’ve been following him on Facebook for ages, and his parts are DAMN sexy. That’s great news that he’s considering shipping to the UK. I used to visit the US a few times a year for work, but that’s simmered down now which is a shame.

Helluva good dude for sure. I’m hoping he’ll at least make an exception for you with me doing the legwork lolz 😂

I appreciate it, thanks!

Just remembered that I need to start the research for a transmitter and receiver now. Sigh, the bleeding never stops.

Absolutely fella! If I were asked, and even with me being a die hard Futaba 10PX guy (been high end Futaba or Sanwa/Airtronics guy since the late 1980’s), I wouldnt put any radio available over the FlySky Noble NB4+ currently. Pretty impossible to beat imho.

The NB4+ is the only I had my eye on months ago, but then the FS-G11P came out which made it difficult to justify the added cost for the NB4+ when I’d only be using it for bashing.

In fairness, the FS-G11P is complete overkill too!

Yeah, the MT48 2.0 skids, bumpers and 'bumper spring' are the same as on the MT 410 2.0, which is a short-chassis SCT 410 2.0... same three parts, just no wheels for the rear bumper.

My car is in this pile!

I still need to order the motor, ESC, servo, radio gear, body, tyres and batteries 😭

Choosing a servo is a nightmare. There is so much choice out there.

I've ordered the 9imod BLS-HV51MG 51KG 180 servo. I'm now busy tossing a coin between the Flysky FS-G11P and NB4+ transmitters.

German RC Playground replied to my comment on YouTube saying that he's probably going to fit a Hobbywing Max8 + 2200kv motor in his, so I'm waiting to see if he confirms it'll fit before I order anything.

EDIT: Flysky FS-G11P has been ordered :)

A small update. I've ordered the following:

I will order the Hobbywing Max8 G2S + 4278SD G2R combo now that it's been confirmed it will fit if you raise the ESC about 10mm as shown in this video at 15:50 and use ~14mm screws. He also said that Modellbau Metz will be releasing an adaptor for this "soon".

The only thing left to get are the Tekno Ti skid plates, but I'm waiting to see if someone will be able to bring them back from the US for me.

A lot of the components will be delivered this week, so I'll be able to start building it next weekend. Unfortunately it looks like the Flysky FS-G11P transmitter is going to take at least 2 more weeks to arrive.
