My new NTC3 kit arrives this friday, and originally I was going to use my current engine. But since I plan to race it locally once I get used to it, I have decided to buy a new engine as well. Please reccomend a good .12 pull start engine for me. I am on a limited budget, so please be kind to me when it comes to price. I am trying to keep the cost around $100, but could go up to $175 if the engine was that much better. Please through some ideas out there asap as I will be purchasing it on Friday. Thanks.

Here are 2 proven engines to get you started.
If you are going to road race speed isn't an issue for the first season or two. There are many to choose from.

OS .12 CV-X
OS CVR-X

With OS the X means Pull start.

os 12 cvx or cvrx maybe trinity xp12 picco all were under 175

my dsl does seem sloooooowww today and i was looking at tower to see what was under 175

I noticed that the cvr has almost twice the hp than the cv does. I like OS engines as I have used them in my RC planes forever. I currently have a velocity .15 from my streetforce, and an AE .15 from my rc10gt RTR. Will the cv have at least as much power as these? I dont want to get it and then be slower than my POS streetforce. But i dont want to get the cvr if the cv will be all i need.......

another thing to look at is pull start vs non pull start.. makes price difference. the hpi .12ss engine, stock hpi rs4 3 ss engine, makes over 1 hp, has warentee, and people seem to like it, it is around 100$ also...

i saw the HPI ss for sale on tower's website - anyone else recommend it also? It got good reviews with the SS kit in the RCNitro mag.
BTW - i dont need a short shaft for the NTC3 do i? like my rc10gt does.

I took 007kels HPI SS engine apart. After he had a crash and the motor screamed at full RPM with no pipe until he got to it, he bought a new motor. The same mill WoddiE is giving away. That is a great fast engine. Look into one of those. His RS4 3 screams.

As for the SS. The inards are not so great. Most sleeves have a crome lining, but this one is all brass. The piston is light and thin and looks like it cannot hold up too much stress. The carb is tiny, And the crank... one of the smallest I have ever seen. As for the perfomance? It has some kick. Go with the OS. you will be happier on the long run, and they are stronger if you work the motor hard.

Remember, you get what you pay for.

I would go with the O.S. 12 instead of the HPI 12rss. I had the 12rss when I built my RS4 3, and I didn't really like it after a while. So I got the OS 15 hyper cvx.

You can also look into a Fantom engine. I also just grab a 12rss for cheap to drop it in my brother Tornado, just to keep the car roar legal instead of having the .16 in there. I'll open up the engine this weekend and see how did hpi do. O.S engines are also very realiable engines, that is also a good choice.
