The tools that came with my car dont really seem to do any good any more. Where can I get a good set of allen wrenches. I dont want those expensive allen drivers. I keep on stripping my wrenches. I dont want anything that is like $6 a wrench, but something reasonable. What all do you guys have?

i buy all my toolds for my trucks at TSC(tractor supply store) where i live..cause when you buy those toold just for the trucks u can use them for any thing else...and plus i can get the same amount of allen's in a set for half the price u can buy them a a hobby store.and better quility..so just go to you local hardware store

I dropped a lot on my losi metric. I've been using them for a year now and they are as good as the day i bought them. It's also nice that you can take the bit out of the handle easily and use it in a drill.

I have a local hardware store that ordered a few of the metric bits for a hex driver.

Kind of like these, but the guy ordered them individually since he didn't have 2mm, 2.5mm, 3mm in stock.

Newnitrofan - I to have a set of Bondhus wrenches, but honestly I hate them. No I haven't broken any of them, yes they have a lifetime warranty. What I hate about them is the small the size the smaller the handle gets. Most of the time I find myself using the smaller ones and having to use a pair of pliers to get a good grip on them.

I'd like to get a set of the Ofna or Team Losi wrenches as they have a standard size grip with different sized ends.

I also use the Losi drivers. They are a little pricey but they will probably be the last set I will ever have to buy.

The first set I had was by Racers Edge. I didn't like them because the handles are too small and difficult to grip.

Not to call you out or anything, but losi's also drop handle size with wrench size. I have a set, and the smaller 2mm and 1.5mm gives you a hand cramp after about 20 minutes of use. I usually take the bit out of the handle and put it in my cordless drill. It has a good slipper clutch on it, so it helps against over tightening.

The Dynamite set I have is great. I have had it for 2 years now and they don't show any signs of wear. The handles are all the same Large size alum. with a diamond pattern in them to help grip. The only issue I have with them is that they are all the same color and difficult to easily find the right one.

When will someone get a clue and make the perfect set.

Large same size handles
Good quality
Replaceable tips
Color coded.
Affordable price.

Doesn't seem to much to ask, Or is it?

They make the handles smaller so you don't break/twist/strip them.

Spending money on tools depends on how long you think you'll stay in this hobby. I've used Bondhus and still have a full set in my box. For higher end stuff I've used Thorp, Trinity and so on with replaceable tips and two years ago I upgraded to a full set of Hudy wrenches. They are great, I plan on doing this along time, already have and good tools is just a well purchased investment.

Well guys at the rate I lose things cheeper is better. Woodie agreed the handles are small and if it comes down to it I have to use a regular allen wrench anyways. I swear my garage eats things left and right. I usually wind up replacing two wrenches a month. I have bought more parts for my cars and stuff because something drops on the floor and I can never find it again. Late

For other regular tools I just use kmart or whatever's cheep

I have an okay set of ball-hexes. They're good for twirling in/out screws. Especially the ones that you can't get a straight-in shot at. (Like the lower shock tower mount screws on a T-Maxx). I don't cinch or break screws with them, though.

I have three T-handled Bondhus wrenches, 2mm, 2.5mm and 3mm. (not ball hex). I use those to break or cinch all screws. If it's not a straight-in shot to the screw (like those lower shock tower mounts) I'll break or cinch with the supplied L-wrenches.

If your supplied L-wrenches start to round off, get out the dremel and grind them down a couple millimeters. They'll be like new.

Edit: Those T-handled wrenches are an easy grip and it's VERY easy to strip or over-torque a screw.

Eddy can I interest you in a set of Team Losi wrenches?

I'll let you know how they turn out as I just purchased a set from StormerHobbies.

Oh yeah, if color coding is an issue for anybody... That trick for putting balloons over shock springs works on wrenches, too.

wdavidhicks - You have a thing for balloons don't you? haha

What do you guys think of a lottery for a bunch of different tools?

The racers edge set I have have round handles about 5/8" dia with a grip length of 2". While the Losi's do drop handle size with wrench size, the shortest length handle is 2 3/4" which makes a difference. Also, the shape of the Losi handles are much easier to grip even on the small ones. Using any style for 20 minutes will give you a hand cramp.

I was just saying, that for large hands, the losi's smaller wrenches are a little tough on them. Plus, i have arthritis... thanks mom.

Besides, i'm a 250lb 27 year old kid. It's probably a good thing the wrenches are small, or i'd strip every bolt on the damn truck. I was a power lifter when i was younger and some of the "bigger is better" mentality stayed with me.

My dad was always telling me :preachin: "Any size hammer in your hands is to big a hammer!":preachin:

(he is an ordained minister, so the preacher thing really fits.)
