I dont get it, why does it seem that allot of people out there want wheelies? I admit that yes I smiled one the occasion when I would catch that perfect grip after a quick turn around and pull the wheels up a bit. It shows me that I have that near perfect balance of traction and acceleration. But I dont like those hair raising complete upright wheelies. I want all 4 on the floor for maximum stability and steering at all times. Even when on the track I try to keep air time to a minimum, the more time your on the track, the better your lap times. Maybe I'm too old or just dont get it, but it doesn't make sence to me.

Yeah, we're too old........lol. I never had my Revo dialed in well enough before putting in the center diff to get it to pull wheelies, well once or twice in the grass it might have, but to me it's a $400 'out of control' toy at that point and I don't like that............... not to say when I'm driving it with all 4 on the ground that it's in control..LOL

Hit the nail on the head. Wheelies are great when someone is watching, but I dont consider them fun. I too use them as a sign that my tune is where it should be.
Wheels up is a bashing up and down your street thing. Where thats the most excitement you're going to get.
With my electrics I spend many hours trying to keep the front end DOWN.....
Funny how that works....

you hit the nail right on the head there Mr Clean. Yeah it may look cool, but to me it's just asking for trouble. Some of these rigs now adays are hard enough already to drive with alll 4 on the ground. Add in a badly time wheely and there goes a $600 rig that can't be run for a week or so due to massive damage. Geesh, I'm only 31 and already saying i'm too old, heaven help me!

ROFL, you just like me, got too much $$ invested and can't stand to have the 'down-time'. I can't put hundreds of dollars into this hobby every month (although if I could, I certainly would), so I have to keep my babies intact as much as possible. Now, that doesn't mean I won't send one of them off the end of a huge jump every now and then...... just cause I want to. LOL

To me, it's nice to know that you have an engine that has more power than the truck can support. Hence, wheelies. If you have an engine that doesn't break a wheelie, then it just isn't enough power for the truck.

I"ve found that the performance I get out of an engine that won't pull a wheelie just isn't all that great and I tend to run the hotter and harder. With an engine strong enough to pull easy wheelies, I tune them richer and gear them taller, so they run cooler and longer. An occasional 2nd gear shift wheelie also typically will bring a smile to your face ;)

But I agree mostly. Wheelies do get old if that is all the vehicle you have does. Makes it hard to take off fast without feathering the throttle so much.

I guess it comes from my background in drag racing, but I always set up my rig to plant the power to the ground to the best of its ability, and keep the front end DOWN. All the power in the world doesn't mean anything if you can't transfer that power to the ground in a controllable manner. I think that especially young kids like to do wheelies because they think it's cool, but for those of us that are performance minded, we know that if you can't keep the front end down, you can't launch as hard as you need to. That's how I feel about it anyway.

yah the wheelies are cool the first few times, but its no fun when you can't controle the truck in the desert cause your front wheels never touch the ground! Ide rather drive the truck than say how fast it wheelies up and down the street!

Now, all this being said I should throw in the fact that I'd love to have a rig with a brushless set up that would pull a wheelie no matter when.......... not so I could do wheelies but just because I'd like to have all that instant power on a rig.

hello. Being new to this world, there is still alot I don't know and haven't done yet, but what I have found so far and that I love are wheelies and flipping my truck. I think it's the adrenaline of watching the truck take air and just ride it. I love hitting the ground hard and lifting my truck. I haven't mastered a full wheelie yet, but I'm getting pretty good at rotating my truck and getting it to land on its wheels again.

Perhaps it's just a preference, like how some live for the thrill of speed and others like a bit more grit.

As for being old.. I don't know about that.. I'm 33 and just getting into the hobby!

welcome to the site, nitromistress. Mr clean, if you ever feel the power of brushless, you better have the camera ready because everything nitro you have will be on ebay lol

Thank you for the welcome.

I'm going to have to see if there is a thread discussing the difference between nitro and brushless... I can't say I am a loyal fan, as I only have one truck, but from what I've heard electric doesn't get the same run time, 10 mins or so of run time for each hour to 2 hours charge time (so I've heard).. And for me, I like being able to run until I can't run any more.

So much to learn.. So much..........

:)

That's what scares me Charlie, as much as I'd like to have a rig that is a little less maintenance (I could NEVER give up my nitros) and as powerful as those brushless motors are...... I've already spent too much getting the Revo and LST. The wife would skin me if I told her I wanted a motor and box to run it and it only cost a few hundred........oh yeah honey, that doesn't include the truck......LOL

NitroMistress, welcome and I love that name. :)

LST2 is at the top of my want list. Altho' I want a Revo, too.

However, when I was at the hobby shop the other day I saw a couple of electric trucks I'd love to have too. Will have to go back and get their names. Is it wrong to have both?? ;)

I haven't had much time to run my LST1............ especially now with the blown motor, but I know I like working on it more than my Revo. Don't get me wrong, the Revo was my first and will always be my favorite, but working on a 1/8 scale rig is so much easier.

And no, it's only wrong to not want both electric and nitro....LOL

Yeah, what he said. I have just gotten back into the hobby with a nitro truck. I used to have electrics and once I got my nitro I thought that I would not another electric rig. However these brushless systems with the Lipo batteries are looking pretty tempting.
