Try ing a tool holder thing. By far my biggest print. Rippling in areas, should I be concerned?

Can't really see the rippling that well on my phone. But it will likely smooth out and only show on the bottom of the part. If it continues, check your axis guilds for debris.

I don't think it's impacting the print but dang it, why didn't a catch this error? Why'd my print get cut off?

Look at your slicer. Is the bed settings in the slicer setup right? Always verify the sliced part looks like the actual part. It must have been hanging off the bed.

Hey guys! Good to see everyone is keeping themselves busy. I'm still kind of barely doing RC, especially because this winter has just been crap weather almost every weekend. So I've been keeping indoors a bit and working on my diecast customizing and diorama design.

My current project is a modular unit that can be configured in multiple setups for creating different settings. The lighting is all DC with most of it being 3v and the light strip at 12V. So with a couple of C batteries and a 3S pack I can run the lights for days and the whole thing is portable. When I'm just using it at home I have a couple of 3-24v variable power supplies that feed into distribution blocks to run it.

This was my V1 and the most portable. It just has the street lights and they are 3V so this thing will travel. I'm planning on taking it with us when we go on a mini road trip in a couple of weeks. I'm also planning on taking the Gen 8 and TRX4 so if the weather is nice enough I might actually do some RC play.

That is awesome man! I love that rollback.

Coolness!
Thank you. As I said though the end intent is modular so that's the most basic version.

V2 is larger and has many more lighting variables. This was my first print in a long time with a .8 nozzle and I did not compensate correctly in a couple of places.

First mock up with a cardstock roof.

n0C3DA2.jpg

The texture in the columns was intentionally bad settings. A little too hot and a little too fast with low cooling. It had a couple of other side effects but nothing that will be traumatic once it's done. This is all mock-up and test fitting for design modification right now.

The big overhead fixtures are white PLA Pro with RGBIC light strips in them. The smaller lighting such as the streetlights and chandeliers are from Aliexpress. The lighting under the Jersey barriers is RGBIC. And still completely portable.

I just finished printing the parts for V3 only to realize I Mirrored something I should have rotated so my spacing was off. So quick redesign and it back to the printer.

It was a lucky deal for me unfortunately due to theft. I don't normally buy These Maisto because they are around $17 for the truck and a car I normally don't really like. I was at my local Fred Meyer and this and the ramp truck I have were in the clearance section for $6 each becasue the cars had been stolen from them. Between the scalpers and thieves it's hard to be a collector these days. That's part of what pushed me to doing customs.

This is a very minor wheel swap and detail. Black out the chassis so it doesn't look so silly. Hit the hinges, handles, and marker lights with appropriately colored sharpie.

Have you thought about using an Arduino uno to build a "control board" you could essentially have all your lights on plug in harness, then use the Arduino with an app or even an old school potentiometer to control each light or a string of lights, or even create a sequence effect, and they could all be powered from 1 source and not need a source for each light.

Very cool stuff, what scale are the diecast vehicles?

I forgot to order spools!!!
I got my first bundle of filament in today and went to throw it on..... Oopsie.
But luckily for me during a call with our guy @WickedFog I learned about the usefulness of PVA and I DID order the on a spool.
Problem solved we now have a spool of pla black installed and working on another print.
I'm printing another GD spool that's what imIM printing today lol

And I'll check the progress then
So freaking cool

Why do you need spools? The filament you buy comes on spools. You'll be swimming in them in no time.

where I'm just now starting i dont have any spools, i clicked the worng button when i ordered it or i wouldnt be having this issue lol,
there are 2 options when ordering, as a replacement or with a spool, i clicked the wrong boxes and got it backwars, so my pla was just a roll.
so for now i can't print any supports as that bundle is in a ziplock bag waiting on its spool to finish. when i order my future filaments ill be more mindful of the choices rather than filled with excitement lol

I forgot about being able to get filament without a spool. That's a great option.

1/64ish. Some are a more true 1/64 but most of them are Hot Wheels and Matchbox which are around 1/64. Aside from the large food truck and the rollback the rest of the vehicles in those shots are just the $1.25 mainline cars I've added some detail to and swapped the wheels and tires.

At this point I'm a little more analog than that and probably will be for a while. I run a couple of different types of lighting in the stuff I build. Because I'm doing these builds with photography in mind a lot of it is more like lighting in a theatrical production. My builds always have some built in lighting so they can be pretty stand-alone but lighting for shots is often filled in with lighting from a "rig" haha. It's basically my swing arm magnifying lamp that I have several different types of light attached to with magnets so I can position them where needed.

My power setup is pretty simple. I have 2 3V-24V power supplies that each have a 10 port hub. I run one at 3.15v for the majority of my lighting which is 3V. The second one runs at 12v but a couple of the ports go to USB to reduce them to 5.1V for some wireless LEDs I use. I might just make it a dedicated 5.1V power supply though because I run almost nothing off 12V these days and when I do it's usually something I need my dedicated 12V30A supply for anyway. Slow motion video takes a lot of light so I sometimes use some LED off road lights as lighting.

I do run RGBIC LED strips which are app/alexa controlled. They are part of the fixed floor lighting in this model and I have 6 overhead units too that can be attached with magnets as needed. They have quite a few patterns like lightning and fireworks effects and the sound responsive ones are fun.

It let's me do fun things like this. I was at the store this morning any had the thought to check the pet aisle for aquarium gravel because it's usually clean and it's cheaper than buying the diorama specific stuff in quantity. I instead grabbed these frosted glass pebbles. Not knowing how much I would need I went big and bought $7 worth. This is maybe 50 cents haha. It's perfect for what I wanted though.

The center stays white because there is a small 3V globe light buried there. Since this is a mockup I just ran the wires over the edge.

where you ordering the filament with no spools ? I'm curious as to the price difference
