Whatcha Printing?

I don't see anything in that that would worry me. It looks like they are just trying to make your printer unhackable. And disabling Orca use is probably just plugging a security threat.

I can't imagine it's that big a deal. For what you're going to be doing, I doubt any of that will affect you. But I can't ssy for sure. There's no way they would do anything that makes their printer less valuable, at least not permanently. You don't get to the top by pissing off your users.

What community are you referring to?
The bambu forums and any YouTube videos on bambu under 6 months old
I was thinking it was something that would have more of an effect on a serious experienced user as opposed to my intended applications
I'm looking for plug and play I'm not trying to rewrite anything. I don't think I'm going to let this keep me from getting one but it is making a few others look a little more desirable
A few people on YouTube are now saying yes I previously recommended bambu but now I won't based on this new change
It went from get this to brake check literally overnight for me lol
So I was asking you guys for your opinions on the matter

I am more like this guy when it comes to things like this. And RC Saylor has been around a long time as well, and is a pretty good dude.

I don't know anything about this situation, but as I said, I don't see Bambu screwing over the community that is driving their sales. If their slicer works, I'd use it. Elegoo has their own slicer they are developing for their printers as well. I reached out to Elegoo about their slicer, asking if it was going to remain free forever. They replied with a believable "yes it will". So many freakin things are going monthly subscription these days, and that crap pisses me off. I applaud Elegoo for trying to alleviate that crap.

The fact is, 3d printing groups and YT channels are full of absolute morons. You have to pay attention to guys that are not completely in this stuff for their YT channel, and as RC Saylor said - fearmongering for views. Maybe the fearmongering is true? Maybe it isn't.

That being said, I am out of the loop on this. If you're worried... wait. I wouldn't go buy an inferior machine simply because the "3d printing community" has turned on a specific brand because of something they've yet to do. Because a lot of that community has no idea what they are talking about.

That's why you see me get into it with folks every once in awhile. Spreading misinformation is not something I am a fan of. If you don't know for a fact, don't open your mouth.

When I first got into 3d printing, coming from 25 years of running every type, brand, and configuration of CNC mills, lathes, vertical, horizontal, with controls from Fanuc, GE, Haas, Mazak, blah blah blah, I joined a few 3d printing communities. And I can tell you what I QUICKLY saw was 90% of the people in the Fakebook groups were complete morons that thought they were now engineers, simply because they pushed a few buttons and made a little plastic boat. Whoopity doo!

The fact may very well be that Bambu is tired of providing support for their printer when folks are using Orca, and their problems lie within their slicer settings, and folks having no idea how to use it. Pure speculation on my part. But could you imagine having a business selling a hardware based product and your support staff spends most of their time helping people setup a 3rd party program to make your stuff work?

You're doing good bro. You're doing your research. Download the Bambu slicer. Follow some tutorials on it. Play with it. See what YOU think. Don't jump on the community bandwagon full of idiots until you know for a fact you didn't jump on the wrong wagon.

I agree with everything wicked frog has said, he's a smart guy knows his stuff and is willing and able to help. I for 1 don't know everything about 3d , but I'm not new to it either. I will say , part of this is finding out what works for you ! not what works for someone else. I know some look down on creality stuff , but for me and my situation they are the best option and allow me to do what I want and need in 3d printing, if I was doing it full time I'd deff have higher end machines, but I just don't need that. I ran a og ender v2 for yearssssss until I finally upgraded to my k1 cause I have a big issue with cross drafts cooling my prints too quickly and causing warping and pulling from the plate. My k1 has all but solved this issue ( it's enclosed) and has a faster print speed ( which can be an issue in itself) but I've learned over time how to troubleshoot it and get the results I want. There is nothing more satisfying then to have an idea in your head for something, build it in CAD software and then print it. To me that's the hardest part, the CAD software , to make really good finished products you have to be good with whatever design software you are going to use. and ofcourse this is just my .02

I would be willing to bet a lot of the complaints stem from folks who are used to using Orca, and are set in their ways.

In the end, a slicer is a slicer for the most part. But there are pros and cons.

When I switched from Cura to Simplify 3d, I did notice I got better prints. The toolpaths were better as well. So there are some differences between the slicers. But the main ones out there will all produce good prints if you set them up right.

The other thing is some have features that others don't and vice versa.

@WickedFog thank you very much bro, that video was what i was looking for to be honest. i was hopefull that it was fearmongering. i AM the soccer dad type of printer and i was hopeful that it was clickbait, but me having zero eexperience with the subject it was giving me buyers remorse before i even did it. i needed this reinforcement that yes itt would still be a good purchase and it will be affecting the 3d farmers who are trying to produce a cash flow with their printers much more than it wopuld affect me printing a drawer organizer or servo tray once or twice a week opposed to the guys with 10 printers going. i kept hearing the biggest issue was the time constraints it was adding to peoples 10 printer setups.
i was watching the video and wondering where have i heard this guy then i look down and I'm sub'd lol i didnt recognise them not at the airport lol

Couple of days ago, I loaded these STL files into Bambu studio. I'd like to print them, eventually. The setup was so easy & I used auto configuration with some of the fields. Both previews were a successful slice. Both are large, time consuming prints, but shows how much filament is used. For the pic on the Goku, I removed the tree supports to show clarity. Fails w/o them. I set them at auto. Junkman is 8.5" tall & Goku 6"

kakarot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! obviously I'm gonna effing LOVE this print lol, need you a vegeta tho hes way cooler

I will say that orintation of your print will effect the quality of the print and just how much supports are needed. I am sure you are aware of this and can see if you change the orientation and then resliced it just how much different in material and time it may take.

You guys looking for printers @332_RC and @majin might even check out the Flashforge printer @HPIguy bought. I was unaware of that one. But it is a contender as well.

I would still go with the Bambu A1 with AMS just for use with a roll of support filament. Especially if you guys are wanting to print silly dolls 😜

Your bed temp is fine. Crank the temp to 230. You have an all metal hotend?

Raise your bed just slightly and print a brim offset from the part, just to test. Stop after a couple laps around and adjust the bed until the filament looks a bit translucent.
Got it printing much nicer now. After an hour fine tuning my level I've got all measurements under 0.1. I do still get a tiny bit of stringing but it's on the skirt. Quality was very good for this part.

That brim looks like your bed is perfect. As for the stringing, up your retraction by .5mm at a time. Each print, watch it and see if it's better. But I see no stringing.

What temp was you at?

Bed 70
Extractor 235. Split the difference on the temp range manufacturer recommended for 100mm speed printing

I did increase retraction. I will go a little higher next file. And thank you for the advice. You have helped make this fun and I've learned a lot more about the slicing software. So many options!
