what would alpine have done in this situation

personaly, id have thrown him in cuffs as soon as he got out the car. failure to stop for law enforcement.

Bottom line is he broke the law. He should have pulled over immediately and explained the situation. Not drive all the way there and then stop. Did he really expect the cop to just let him run inside? What if he was a nutcase that was going there to commit a crime? The public would be screaming that the cop should have detained him and finished out the ticket.

I don't think we got the full story on the mom either. If my mother was close to death, i would probably be at the hospital 24/7.

Either way, I obey the law and would have taken up a discrepancy later. Stopping at the red light would have taken a minute or so longer but he took a chance, ran it, and got busted.

I am with alpine, i would have slapped him in cuffs immediately.

I didnt even watch the whole thing, but i know for a fact, that most traffic stops take longer than 13 minutes. Depending on which dispatcher we have onduty, sometimes it takes 30 min just to get information read backs. Its just another case of "the white man trying to keep the black man down" Not trying to start any racial things about it, but honestly if it were a white guy, none of this would have even been placed in the news. The media just portray's us as doing somthing just because were "racist" cops. In other words, it makes good news.

IMO, this can/does happen to anyone.

hmm, kinda hard to pick a side on this one, if the dudes mother was dieing, or mother in law, what ever he said, i think the cop could have been easier on him and maybe went in with him or something and made sure that that was true, i doubt the cop would want to have to deal with being pulled over if he was trying to make it to see his dieing mother......but i bet cops in big cities like that have to deal with so much bs that it doesn't matter what the dude says.

He didnt stop. That is considered evading. I probably wouldnt have written him a ticket, but i would have definately detained him until i got all of his information/history from my dispatcher. Someone dying is no excuse to risk other peoples lives by driving like a jackass, running lights and stop signs in cross walks (if anyone else noticed that)

oh now i see, americans can drive like nuts if they just have a related person laying in the hospital, hmm a 2 ton vehicle being driven by a person that needs to rush into the hospital for something, that is what 911 is for :( its kinda distracting to see the ppl drive over here, if you for instance take GA usa just as example.
my brother in law who was at the time of this happening, honestly to stupid to turn on a vehicle's engine by himself, neither did he know how to throw an automatic in gear or how to signal a turn properly, but he walks in the DDS and gets out with a license, dear lord give them some brains please.
i finally took 7 hrs to show him how to drive around the block and so on, but that is unbelievable that they do this, they want to tighten the weapon laws but they let ppl that are not really qualified drive a 2ton death-bullet:(

disappointment in traffic regulations would be the first thing i notice about this country :)
but hey thats just my 2 cents

then i feel for / with you.

see in germany you pay approx 2 grand for your regular automotive license called class B.
we have to take a driving school theoretical exam which takes about 1 hr, your allowed to have 9 pts and the highest weighted questions are 5pts which are most of the time turning and driving rights. so you start with 40 hrs in total of lessons just like in school :)
then when you passed your exam which if you fail costs you 200 bucks again :)
you get to drive a car which has 2 sets of pedals, in most cases its manual, people that make their license in an automatic vehicle are only allowed to drive automatic equipped cars.
none the less you get about 30 hrs of driving with a teacher on your side in that driving there is danger control like driving with 30 mp/h towards a object then performing an emergency "sidestep" manouver or how ever that would be described best :)
also there is a total stop from 30 mp/h you need to do an emergency stop sequence on command, if your to slow or you fail any of the essential tests which is the last of all tests, driving with an designated driving instructor and your driving teacher for approx 40 mins around the city performing at least 2 emergency situation trainings. fail that one and it costs you a bit over 150 :)
but now you should see why we know how to handle a car easier of the get go.

Louisiana you have to do a 30 hour classroom course, 20 hours on the road to pass drivers ed, take 2 written tests, and pass a driving test. Its tough. But nothing near the driving schools i went to.
