Alright heres the scoop - Aside from my Tmaxx and T4 I find myself using my AX10 A TON! Now I'm at the point where my wife wants to get into crawling with me but I want to upgrade to more of a comp rig for myself. I'm lookin for suggestions for both of us.
Entry level for her I was thinkin maybe the Ridgecrest or a SCX10. With the SCX she can "scale" it to a point but still bash the hell out of it. Thought about a Wraith but every vid I see they seem to go to fast for crawling. I know they are a rock "racer" but just seem too fast for crawling purposes. IDK?? Thats why I'm asking for suggestions.

For me the AX10 services me well but I'm getting into more steeper and complex stuff that the AX has no business tryin to tackle. I was thinking maybe XR but that involves all the electronics separately. I would almost like to find a comp RTR crawler that I could modify and build as I go along (thats 1/2 my fun with the wrenching)

Thanx for any input and suggestions!!

Heres where my virginity shows with crawling - MOA?? I have seen the kits on feebay but whats the difference between the stock and MOA?

There are 2 kinds of crawlers for the most part.

Shafty's = the motor and tranny are mounted in the chassis and transfers power to the axles using drive shafts.

MOA = as stated above is motor on axle but it is also the tranny that is now on the axle and no more drive shafts, all this gives you a much better and lower COG or center of gravity in addition to having a second motor and better dig options then a shafty and it is all controlled electronically vs. mechanically.

They also have a WantAMix MOA controller that allows the use of 1 esc but controls both F/R motors instead of messing with jungles of wires. Thats what I used and loved it. I also still have it.

You can tune the Wraith stock to preform on some pretty steep stuff, low torque and also the witty speed to get up n go.

They only reason why I dislike crawlers is because they have tiny tiny battery pack places and require a Lipo switch up often.

I looked up the wantamix and they r out of stock with no restock scheduled in the near future. Any other suggestions? Still a bit confused with the dual motor setups and how they would operate on 1 ESC.

I also typically run a 1600mah Ni pack on a custom plate bolted to my rear axle. Helps great keeping the LCG and I typically have runtimes in the 40ish minute range. I understand dual motor would equal 1/2 the runtime but I already have 4 of these batteries.

I still dont know what to get the wife but am slightly leaning towards the Wraith. She says her original brushed Slash is too fast so the Wraith RTR may be perfect for bashing for her providing you can fine tune for slower driving/crawling.

MOA was always tricky to me, and have only worked with one. But if you decide to go with a single ESC I have that WantAMix unit still you can use.

Good luck in your search.

I use a punk dig switch in my XR10 comp rig, the way it works is your ESC +- motor power wires get soldered in to the dig switch, then there is a place on it to solder and run wires from the switch out to your front and rear motors, also there is a lead on the dig switch that plugs into your 3 position 3rd channel on your Rx, once it is all hooked up you simply toggle between the 3 positions on your 3rd channel of your controller to go between front motor only 4WD or rear motor only. hope this helps.

Kinda understand. I definitely need to read up on this before I go too far. The way I'm thinkin is taking my current AX10 and putting/building a LCG tubechassis with MOA driveline for an even better LCG. The hardest part for me seems to be getting the lingo. Dig unit? Lockouts? and the wiring aspect like what is stated above. It is explained well but sounds like chinese!!:) I'll keep askin the ?'s

Maybe this will make more since to you and sound more like english, lol!

Just don't try to reinvent the wheel or over think it. Look at some build threads on here and take ur time. :D

Already been going thru the archives and studying up. The biggest thing I want to do different is make my own side chassis plates but still utilize the basics out of my AX10. Although if I'm fabbing a chassis and using moa axles I really wont need much from the AX

Thanx for the tip. I actually went today and got my first SCX. So far pretty happy. It is a completely different direction as I was originally thinking a fullout comp rig but oh well. My LHS had a beautiful XR with every Vanquish part imaginable. I almost pulled the trigger but it would have meant I needed a new TX as the 2 I have and the 1 I won from here cannot support the dig at all. They had a nice MT-4 but it was another $200 on top of the $500 for the AX. WAY over budget. I got the SCX for $400 so I'm good for now (Already placed ebay orders for another $150 so I suppose I'm no better off this route)

Congrats on the new rig, guess you will start posting in the scaler section now, LOL!!!! you may still end up needing a new radio if you decide to add a winch to your SCX10.
