I'm still a newb, have had my car just a few weeks. What is the best procedure for cleaning out the engine after you are done running?

What I have been doing is taking out the glow plug, spraying some WD-40 in the engine, and then turning the engine over a few times by hand. I also spray a shot of WD-40 in the carb after running.

Am I doing everything properly, or is there something else I should or shouldn't do after running?

Thanks

Chad

they make this stuff called after run oil to run through after the day of bashing

traxxas reccomends wd-40....you can also use marvell mystery oil.......

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I've heard that WD40 isn't good for the bearings.
Myself, I always use After Run Oil and never had a speck of rust. It's pretty cheap @ about $3 for a bottle that will last you for years.

Sup dude,

Most RC VETS that I know wouldn't let WD-40 get any where near their engine. Kuddos though for being a responsible nitro onwer that's taking care of your chit. Many people think that you could have problems with rust using WD-40 but it's never been a problem for me in the past.

I use either Tranny fluid, "After run oil" or a fully synthetic gear oil form a great company called BG.

Peace

Thanks for the tips, looks like I'll quit using WD-40 and go get myself a bottle of After Run Oil.

Another question though...are you guys just putting a few drop into the cylinder, or do put some in the carb also? Thanks

Chad

With afterrun oil.. I put about 3 drops in the carb and then turn it over.. I dont put it in the cylender.

I'm doing myself a pole at my other forum i go to where all the guys have 1500 to 2000 dollar full Super Maxxes so far most everyone is using mystery oil ..... a couple use wd -40.......and one uses 4 and one oil.,,,,,,,,,,,,, most of them or running the rb concepts motor:thumbsup:

WD-40 should help the engine i used it on a couple occasions..cause it is suppose to prevent rust, free bearings,etc...

chadda, what I normally do is put 5 or 6 drops in the cylinder head (through the glow plug hole), and then put 3 or 4 drops in the carb opening. Then while the plug is still out yank the cord 5 or 6 times (or just a couple of seconds from an electric start).
I think I use more ARO than most people, but it's worked for me for years, so I'm not changing it! Also when you start your engine fo r the first time after you've used the ARO it'll take a few seconds to burn off the oil, then it'll run like a dream!

TRAXXAS has suddenly started endorsing the use of WD-40 in their engines. Why? Couldn't tell you. One would think it would be good as a lubricant and rust preventative. I personally would not use anything that is used as a solvent on the inside of my RC engines for lubricant purposes.

Spend the $3-5 for a bottle of ARO at your LHS. They will love you for supporting their store, and your engine will love you in the end.

I am with maxx I don't think I would ever put WD-40 in any of my rides whether it is a cheepie motor or a $$$ racing motor. Either which way I am all about a couple of drops down the carb and a couple of drops down the glow plug hole than turn the flywheel a couple of times by hand at least five to six times. Later

................... i just spent 41.70 for a gallon of sidewinder nitro fuel and 2 mc59 glow plugs from local hobby shop.........I'm slowly geting over being sick to my stomach

You can truly say that when you drop $1695 (note the lack of a decimal) in one trip.

lol if i spent that much at one time....i would have to come home and take a long nap:madface:

WHOA! I thought spending $700+ was a lot when I got my NTC3 kit and all the goodies but then again, what hobby isn't expensive? I spent just about $3800+ when I got a complete SCUBA rig .

Needless to say, the passion out weighs the price. I was happy ... poor for a while, but very happy!
