what the youngest

For a young person? I would think a Savage because it's very durable. IMO the age of someone doesn't count for many things. You can be a 5 year old with a Savage, you just need to know how to control and maintain it. You will have many choices, like a T-Maxx, LST, LST2, etc.

Think he meant youngest age you would recommend for someone to run a nitro.

If so, it depends on maturity level and some coordination with hand tools. My 8yr old is too spastic for nitro (heh) but a friend has a kid the same age who is able to run & maintain a nitro.. with the exception of full tear downs etc.

kk just checking b/c I'm 12 and thinking of getting a sportwerks reaction as my first truck. what tools/ extra parts would i need?

I started at around 12 or 12 and a half, and my first truck was a used Traxxas .15 Nitro sport. It was something I could bang up a bit, and it wasn't too fast to handle. It's also the lowest skill rating of all Traxxas Nitro Trucks. It is a 2 out of 5.

I'm looking for cheap b/c i can get the reaction for 150 on ebay so i could spend 150 on tire and parts.

You wanna check with your local hobby shop and see what brands/parts they stock. Don't always just go for what you can get cheap because it's just that, cheap. Break easy and then you have to order everything off line. Which can really be annoying when you need a 3 dollar part and pay 8 bucks for shipping.

Look at the Traxxas Rustler. Good truck and decent price.

Okay, you say they stock it but have you actually ever been inside your LHS to see for yourself? The Website and store are two completely different places. The website shows you everything they CAN get but not what they stock.

Sportwerks seems to be a lower end brand. Breaks easier, cheap plastic, engines, radio gear. I would stay away fro them if you can. Seems to be a knock off of Losi.

Look for the rustler on ebay. I'm sure if you look hard enough you can find one at a decent price.

Yes, I agree with what Losi said. I personally have never heard of this brand. And, again, you should go to the actual store. I looked at my Hobby shops website for example, and it said they have Rustler VXL's, and I actually go to the store, and they don't.

FYI, my son is 11 and does really good with his t-maxx. he maintains it, and it is a great learning tool for eye-hand coordination, and learning to maintain things.

I've never heard of a 4x4 conversion for 2 wheel drive traxxas electrics, but I would jump all over it! I wouldn't buy anything from an off-brand company. You can pick up a xl5 traxxas truck or buggy for under $200. Gotta get a charger and pack too. Get 2-3 7 cell 2000's and a cheap peak charger. Whole investment should be well under $300. I picked up a used maxx 2.5 for $170 off ebay. Runs great, though buying used nitro's is always risky.

do you mean buying a nitro off ebay new or used? if it's used dont i just worry about how it was broken in?

If you can, get it brand new. I've bought a used Tmaxx off of eBay before, and when it came, it was very poorly maintained, and it was a well, bitch to get started. I eventually did, but if this is your first, I wouldn't recommend used.
