Right after I bought my first T-Maxx, the Revo came out and I kinda wished I had bought it instead after hearing that the T-Maxx is fragile. Right now there is a sale at my LHS on limited edition Savage 25. I like to bash my t-maxx but i have to fix it all the time. What truck do you recommend I should get? Any suggestions? Drawbacks? Thanks everyone.

Savage is a basher, use the search button and you'll have massive post's like yours with the same answers you'll get from everybody else, revo is a racer.

Savage is Hands down the toughest and most durable MT out there. Even the traxxas nuts will agree. can't go wrong with a Savy.

Get the Savage. Plus, with the Special Edition you get the 3 speed trans and a few otehr upgrades, such as a specially painted body.

Thanks for the advice you guys, I think I might do it. Can someone tell me if 550 CAD is a good price for this truck? That's about 469 USD.

OK.

I was dead set on getting the savage, especially after I talked to you guys about it, and on my way home I even saw 2 guys in the park with savages... they were limited editions too... that's like a sign from god! Anyway, I went to my LHS to pick up the savage and overheard some dudes talking about the Team Associated MGT 460. The owner drives one, this other dude had one there getting tuned, and as we were talking, another guy was adjusting camber/toe-in on another one. This seemed like a very popular truck. There is not 3 speeds on it, but there's a tuned pipe, and reverse. Plus I liked the pullstart/drillstart on it as well.

The biggest argument against the savage that these guys came up with was that the components are really locked tight inside and you have to take out the motor to get to the spur gear and stuff like that. With the MGT 460, everything was layed out all nicely on the chassis. I really couldn't decide, because i'm kinda a noob... I do know that fixing my T Maxx was a bitch, and making that easier is tops on my list.

Please rain some comments on me, I haven't opened the box in case I want to go back and get the savage. Savage 550 CAD, MGT 499 CAD - Good deal? I already know the savage LTD edition for 550 is a great deal, but I"m not sure about the other. Did I make the right choice?

see the thing on the savy.. its hard to work on yes. untill you figure out HOW to work on it. i can change the spur in under 5 min. you just have to learn the short cuts. BUT you will work on it less because its so tough. I've worked on mine more upgrading stuff (motor, wheels, pipe, servo saver, radio, failsafe.) then i have fixing broken parts. its a tough truck and that is the reason its hard to work on. everything is connected at multiple locations so its stronger, but thats more stuff to take apart when you DO need to..

I've never had a mgt so i can't comment on that. but this is my 2nd savy, and i dont see myself ever NOT having a savy any time soon. those of you that know me or our little group know that we beat the crap out of our rides. i have never babied my savy, and it has never let me down. the only time i broke it was because i did something dumb and nothing short of a block of titanium would have held up to that. i can honestly say i punished my savy and it grins and begs for more. (i think its demented??)

not tring to be a A-hole but it seems that there has been many people commin in and asking our opinion, then going a different direction. (there was a guy a few weeks ago asking about a jato, we told him the jato wasn't really best for him, then he comes back, well i decided on a jato.)

why ask if your not gonna take the advice? it takes up our time to reply to your thread as to why we feel truck A is better or worse then truck B, then you go and buy truck D?? maby its just me..

i really hope you enjoy this hobby and your new mgt. let us know how it holds up.

Don't get me wrong, I really appreciate all the advice I have been given. I don't want to waste anyones time, and I'm definately having second thoughts about my decision to buy the MGT. I really hadn't even planned on getting a second truck, as I'm kind of a newbie to begin with, I just came across some money and decided it would be kinda cool. If I could, I'd probably just buy both trucks. I am thinking the limited edition savage is more bang for your buck, but somehow the guys working and hanging out at the LHS changed my mind. So far looking around on forums, it seems everyone who has a MGT seems to like it, and everyone who has a savage says it is the best truck to bash, and even goes faster than the MGT. I just don't know anymore.

ANY RC you get will be a PITA to work on if you aren't familiar w/ it...yes the Savvy is probably the biggest but it's the toughest (durability wise) as well.....the MGT is not much tougher than a T-maxx IMO.....very similar design.....like B said it's tough until you learn the shortcuts.....look at the T-maxx tranny....I read yesterday all these people taking a ton of stuff off it just to remove it.....I can have my tranny out in less than 5 mins and back in the same.....learn the RC you have and try to improve it....Unless you can just try new stuff all the time and not care about cost.....personally I like the Maxx design just not the production quality.....build your maxx up w/ the 400 bucks you got for a new one and you can have one sick MF'er maxx LOL.....

Ill agree with the fish on this one,If the mgt is like the maxx then it's a pos on parts quality, design's pretty cool,Although the design may be cool to look at,the way it crash's can be a hassle,i managed to go through a set of bulkheads a day in my maxx,i drove everyday in the summer, sometimes i would go through more than one set,if mgt's parts quality are better than traxxas, maybe it's a good way to go,Woodie has one,he could chime a bit on it if he see's this thread,Although like fishy said,$400 into a maxx would make it awesome, but $550 on a savage stock is better than tossing $800 on a maxx that wont break as easy,if you had the $800 total, tossing $350 into a savage would be amazing, nothing like the maxx.T-maxx's design is a half way thought out design for the part's they use on it.I wouldn't go with the mgt unless you know for sure,I've never owned a mgt but if it's built like the maxx,i would be very carefull with it,you'll end up with a lot of broken parts.

My Maxx has aluminum bulkheads, skidplates, titanium hinge pins and RPM A arms. It has definately exploded more than once! From what I gather here, people are saying that building up a maxx would be better than buying a new MGT, but buying a savage and hopping it up would be better than hopping up my maxx, correct? I might just take back the MGT, I haven't opened the box. Using that money to hop up the maxx seems more cost effective, and I am finding it harder and harder to justify another nitro truck...

Buy the Savage. You already have a Maxx, why buy another one...(the MGT)

That's exactlly what I'm saying, take the MGT back,Hopping up a maxx will cost you a good chunk of change,so instead of hopping up the mgt to be as durable, buy the savage, and use the money that you were going to use to hop up the MGT into the savage, then you'll be almost indestructable.

I suppose that opens the option to sell my maxx to hop up the savage... I know that would make the girlfriend happier... "2 TRUCKS NOW?" :boxing:

I always bought used RCs anyway because after the first one I realized I wasn't gonna be happy w/ a stock RC...so I bought decent shape used ones and just built what I wanted out of em (hence my reomendation for doing your maxx).....If you're looking for super tough right out of the box get the savage....it's the closest thing to an indestructable RC I've seen......the MGT is in between....it's tougher and faster than a maxx but not really the best geometry for either discipline (race / bash).......still an awsome truck just very vanilla IMO.....
the way I break it down (before Revo) is If you want to Race get a maxx and hop it up...if you want to Bash just get a savage.....the maxx will crush a savage in handling ability but the savage has a better engine......But you have to dump money into a Maxx to make it tougher....the savage is ready to rock as is pretty much.....both have sub par electronics so at least a steering servo is in order ASAP.....

I took back the MGT and got the Savage 25 limited edition. I looked at the price comparison, and I'm getting a better deal on a more expensive truck too, so I'm happy about that. So I took back truck D and I got truck B for badass... I hope the weather stays warm for another week.

My T maxx came with a DVD on how to break it in, what do you guys recommend I do differently for the savage? At my LHS they still tell everyone to idle 5 tanks. I'm hoping to break it in on the weekend if the weather is decent.

Thanks to everyone for all your advice and help. It seems that everyone with a savage is really happy with it, and I'll let ya know how my experience goes too.
