hi, I'm relatively new to the hobby. i have had rc cars in the past but I'm looking to step up to nitro. i can't decide what to get. should i buy my neighbors old super rs4 thats in good condition but hasnt been run in a while or a tmaxx? i want a truck but i could get the old rs4 for cheaper than the tmaxx as my 1st car. what should i do?

honestly the words "cheep" and "nitro" done mix very well. if you go cheep you will spend WAY more money fixing it later.

with that said, what do you plan on doing with this rig? a t-maxx and a rs4 are to completly different rigs.

and last, what is your budget, there are alot of people here, and one of the forum sponsors that has used rigs for sale cheeper than a new rig.

i was leaning toward a truck and i havent ever seen the rs4 run but to me it sounds like they didnt do much with it long, just tried to get into the hobby but got back out so it sounds like ok condition

Well, Beason pretty much called it. Cheap and Nitro definitely do not go together. You either spend the money up front or later in hopups. Obviously if you want to stay on road only... the used RS4 may be the way to go. If you want to go offroad then the Tmaxx would work. There are so many RC's out there I would not limit myself to just looking at the two you mentioned. There are stadium trucks, truggys, buggys, and the like out there to choose from. The TMaxx is a great starter rig... tough, easy to work on, and there are tons of hopup parts out there. Let us know your thoughts. There are alot of folks here that are more than willing to help. Good luck and welcome to RCNT.

thank you, i was looking to go more off-road considering i have more places to do so, but i also have places to do on-road too. I'm just not all that rich at the moment and didnt know if the rs4 would be good for my budget. how much would the battery and charger for the ez start cost? i havent been able to find that anywhere

for a first rig, i would go offroad, just for the fact that the onroad will get boring fast, with an offroad you can set up ramps, and run almost anywere, with an onroad your limited to a nice smooth parkinglot...

what kind of budget are you looking at? like i said, alot of people here have used but good condition rigs they would be willing to part with. i personaly have a nitro rusty I'm going to sell after i clean it up and check it out.

take a look at the vid section to, and see if anything seems like what you want to do.. then we can help you narrow your search down. just with offroad there are monster trucks, truggys, buggy, and stadium trucks with each section haveing 3 or more choices...

ok the budget isnt all that much at around $300ish

Ok $300.00 won't get you a new rig but you can find something descent for that range. That being said how do you feel about eBay? I just picked up a RTR Savage with everything but a charger for $211.00 shipped. It will probably need a little work but for the price I couldn't pass it up.

ok, well with christmas coming up should be at about 500 and thats the budget i want to stay at at first

Id suggest a Rc10gt. You can pick up a nice used one of ebay for around $150-$175. Nice trucks that will teach you alot, easy to tune, tough, and once ya get the hang of it, there very competetive at the track. Also got to figure that AFTER you get a truck you will need glowplugs, a glow plug wrench, Ignitor, Fuel....

who makes the rc10gt?

team associated makes them.

just look around for the right R/C for you. look on websites and do a little research and ask ALOT questions. Then once you get your R/C play around with it and get to know the feeling for driving one. Thats how we all learned.. Everyone on this site will be more than willing to help. You just have to be patient and everything will eventually come.

If it has to be new this would be my choices. The truck is great, the charger is fine for a basher, the glow stick will work and the battery is not considered good but it will do the job for now.

Thats a grand total of $514.00. You get $15.00 off so your right at $500.00, standard shipping will cost $8.00.

Are you could substitute the truck for the Maxx but the Savage is well worth the extra $$$

well i do want a truck, not a buggy or truggy. and so the savage is much better than the t maxx?

The Savage is much stronger than the Maxx, with a Savage you will actually save money in the long run.

you mean by not having to repair as much right?

Yes the Savage is more durable. The only weak point on the Savage is the steering servo, but you will have that problem on any RTR. With the Maxx you get weak

Steering servo
bulk heads
chassis
motor mount
bulk heads
a arms
bulk heads

And in case you missed it the Maxx has very weak bulk heads!

ok thank you

so which is better the savage 25 or the savage x? i know they dont make the 25 anymore
