What makes the Maxx faster than a Savage?

Ok that's just a quote not a bash or a flame this is just my opinion.

With that said I think you maybe biased and granted I maybe to but you do own a trx.15 pro T-maxx and not the new 2.5. I also want to state up fron the Savage is a great truck and it along with the Tmaxx own the MT class.

Humboldtblazer, no flame taken, but you should be very careful in what you describe as mine.

My T-Maxx is the old version to start and that is where it ends. With just over $2000 invested in it, and a Fantom engine, my T-Maxx is no longer a TRX .15 PRO. As for it not being a 2.5, this is true, but the 2.5 engine in the new T-Maxx is the only thing that truly sets it apart. I have an engine that has run down a couple of 2.5s like they were standing still. I have a T-Maxx that is bulletproof compared to an out of the box T-Maxx. I have spent countless hours and more than enough bash sessions with my T-Maxx to be able to have a biased opinion for the little sucker. Heck I put more than three gallons of fuel in some hard core bashing through my T-Maxx before I even got the Savage. I like my T-Maxx and think that it (any T-Maxx) is a great truck.

BUT....

The Savage out of the box is a stronger truck. It might not be as fast as the T-Maxx out of the box, but as I said speed and monster trucks...kind of not the first thing I think of. Speed and onroad racers...they go together like a hand in a glove. So while I want a fast truck so I can get great air off of huge jumps, I'd rather start with a weak ass engine and a super strong chassis and main structure...dump a buck fifty on a better engine and then go stomp the crap out of a few more T-Maxxes for the hell of it. I don't want to have to spend another $2000 on upgrades and replacement parts, if I can spend half that and have twice the fun.

Just my opinion....no flames directed anywhere...

Right on. I guess my main point was the 2.5 mill is way faster and the T-maxx is about 3 pounds lighter stock so thats why the T-maxx 2.5 stock is about 10mph or better than a stock Savage. I would love to bash with you someday Sky I think we would have a great time. Sounds like we share the love for the MT.

Get a Savage, it's .21 ready and easy to drop in a more powerful .21 than the 21BB engine. The T-Maxx is faster because of weight:power ratio, the Savage is quite a bit heavier. I wouldn't buy a T-Maxx and spend all that money converting to .21 when I could just get a Savage for a fraction of what a .21 T-Maxx would come to.

Good luck.

I am very happy with my Maxx. My LHS is the direct importer and distibutor of Traxxas since 2000. I have to travell 60 kms to and from HPI suppliers thats 120kms. My LHS is 3 kms from me.

He lives in Virgina and you in Cali. Sky may come to the bashfest though. Get that plane ticket and meet him there. :D

:OT: sorry

Good thread by the way. I want a MT someday. I'm leaning to the Savage for all the reasons SkyMaxx pointed out.

To answer the original question of the thread:

Gearing.

Give me a runway and the right gearing and Ill smoke a TMaxx with a stock engine in a Savage(just different gearing)

Same on the low-end punch. Its all about the gearing.

Of coarse RPM's help........

I've had my maxx for a few years now, every since it came out (1st generation) and i love it to death. Sure it's not .21 monster power and not hopped wit aluminum, but it gets the job done. I've spent about $200-300 on hop ups to make it stronger and faster. With my RPM arms and other odds and ends here and there my truck is pretty much crash proof (except a WOT into a wall ect. but what rc isn't safe from that???). I like to think of the savage as an Improved T-maxx. HPI took the t-maxx design and create a whole new truck. They fixed the problems and made the savage. I think both trucks are really good, and if i had the money i would get a Savage. But for now my t-maxx will have to compete out with there with those Savages :)

I want to see a Savage run. Where I live there is no tracks (close by) and I"m the only one w/ a R/C car!!!!!

If you want to kinda custom build and "tinker", do like I did. Start w/ a T-Maxx and work your way up to a Supermaxx. Then you can run a .21 (after a lot of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$)

If you don't care about messing with something, and want to just drop in a motor for more power, get a Savage. Lots cheaper.

G/f is wanting a MT, and while flipping through a magazine, she showed me the Savage and said she wanted it. That was cool, b/c I have been planning to pick one up soon.

Dude, i commend you on your uber search skills but this thread is from 2003!!

its great your searching for the info! but i dont think the users you are responding to are even active members anymore... :\

I am impressed. I think this thread is pretty old and the models that were in question are dated.

Nice find though..

The models being discussed were awesome...;)

i would go with a tmaxx but if your gonna do hard bashing go with the savage but ill tell u now the tmaxx can take a HARD betting. I race my tmaxx 2.5 aganst savages and team losi lst2 and the tmaxx keeps up with them all all i got to say is TMAXX
