hi guys
I'm totally new to this nitro stuff but not to r/c heli's. I've been given a chassis for what looks like an old kyosho but don't know if its worth doing anything with or what model it is. I'm sorting out the electrics now and plan to try to turn over the motor once a glowplug starter arrives but it looks like this model may have been 4wd at one time and the brake disk/linkage appears to be missing. Any ideas guys?

Gents, anyone know the identity of the chassis above? Any help would be appreciated.

hi thanks for the reply. No nothing I can find anywhere. The engine is a GP, the rx is sanwa but the tx is acoms. I've put in a set of xals but there's no response from the servos. The glowplug appears to be dud as well. The local model shop think it might be a kyosho inferno MP7 but I'm not convinced. any help appreciated. :)

looked up some pics of the smartech and I think you are right it does look very similar, thanks

Battery box often says something on them, nothing there either? Wonder how old it is, hopfully not as old as them floppys.

Floppies are my era ( I've got some 5 1/4 inch ones as well !!!)I just can't bear to throw anything out and they still fit my old atari ste :)
no battery box , it's just a generic holder which was tiewrapped in place under the Rx. I think this car might be as old as the floppys. I think beason might be on to something with the smartech. I've tuned in and old scanner to check the Tx which is working and the servos are ok on a tester so I'll change out the Rx. I've tried a new glowplug in a new battery glow plug starter but it seems like it's not up to the job. No glow on either plug with fresh battery. A new rechargable one is on the way with the Rx so I may be able to get it running at least. I feel a money pit growing here. My better half is working up THAT stare in her eyes already. Must be something to do with the part built 450 pro thats about to be banished to the garage as well. Thanks for the help guys and any advice you can give on keeping/ditching starting even, would be very gratefully recieved.

Oh man, I hate THAT stare in my wifes eyes....shes had it for quite awhile now.....it takes awhile to go away too. It has become increasingly difficult to put money into my pit lately. I'm pretty sure that everyone would agree that RC=$$$, and they all have that look :nono: I'm pretty sure!!lol

I am on the porch smoking a cigarette right now as I type this. Apparently cleaning my losi engine to prep for sealing it tonight while eating dinner was a bit too bold of a move. I got that look several times as I scraped gunk out of the exhaust port. She's not happy as this car is a work in progress for about a month now.

Honestly what ever model it is I think we can all agree that its old. There are two problems with fixing up old RCs. 1) they usually dont have much part support 2) they end up becoming a huge money pit as you try various things to replace aprts you can't get anymore and even if you put the money into it trying to get the non standard parts to work you usually end up having to manufacture ways to get it to work. Soemtimes it can be a nightmare.

Oh, and theres "THAT" look you have to deal with also...

Honestly its usually not worth it IMO.

sorry for the late reply. holls and work. I agree, its the law of diminishing returns and the skill is to know when to quit. So.... It's had a couple of additions from ebay and is now up and running for the princely sum of £45. Its got new ( second hand) servos, rx, tx, battery box, glow plug, starter, spanner and air filter. After a careful run in rich for a couple of tanks it seems to work ok. It's for a workmate who dumped it on me as I "new a bit about helis and rc stuff" . He told me not to bother with the brakes even though I warned him these things really move so....I really enjoyed getting it up and running and am bitten by the bug now. The "look" is now reduced to a sad shake of the head. Thanks to all who replied for the help and advice.
