the nitro engines do not use rings on the piston, they rely on a tapered cylinder in order to seal the compression chamber. this is known as "pinch" in where the cylinder pinches the piston as it slides up. over time this taper wears down, or the metal in the cylinder stretches until there isnt much "pinch" left. the engine starts running worse, as there isnt as good of a seal between the cylinder and the piston. some companies offer to "re pinch" the cylinder by using a clamp and heat cycling to squeeze the cylinder back down to size again.
