So what does sealing a nitro engine help do for it? Thanks for any help.

You will get air leaks around your needle's and back plate also your carb by sealing it that will be elimiated. If you start getting air leaks in any of those area's your motor will start to run lean and you will not be able to keep a good tune plus you will have to run your engine richer to compensate for the air leaks which effects your engine performance.

I've sealed an engine after break in and it does runs cooler and stronger. The only engines I have not sealed is my os engines. They've ran great all the time so far knock on wood.

with winter almost here (MN) i was thinking about doing mine (2.5) how do you do it? and what should you use as a sealer ?

Alot of people use high temp rtv.

I use Lucky seven wicking sealant and have had good luck with it. Instead of taking the engine apart you can clean it up and put sealer around the trouble areas. The sealer will "wick" into any existing leaks and seal them up. I also use Associated's green slime on needle o-rings and carb throat o-rings.

The beauty of this is when you do tear the engine down there's no messy rtv everywhere.

Also the colors of RTV really are different strength's

Black RTV strongest ( do not use because you will have a really really hard time getting the engine back apart )

Orange RTV ( mostly used on these forums i believe, it does the job while not making it too hard pull pieces off the block. but seals it nicely )

Grey RTV ( not the strongest hold but it lasts along time, that stuff also can be used on nearly anything and it will last. I've even used it on my cars exhaust manifold gasket and its still intact and not burnt. It looks like it did when i first put it on. )

Blue RTV ( i would also recommend this color as it is very spongy or elastic like, but not real sticky. This rtv is mostly used for sealing radiator pieces and does the job well.)

Clear RTV ( this i wouldnt recommend for nitro engines its very weak and does not last )
