pulled my bell off cause the other day it was hooking up all that well and really kind of dragging. didnt have the usuall punch it has. i took off the bell and about 1/8 of an inch of each of the 3 shoes are melted down.

it means that they are always in contact with the clutch bell

i believe that the cb will be discolored if it gets too hot

it was about 103 degrees when i was running it the other day.

Big pic, I think the problem is you had constent contact and/or your shoes have not been taken care of, meaning they glazed over and over-heated.

they were new shoes and a new bell only ran for about 5 tanks.

Ok maybe the clutch spring is to tight, and it wont let the shoes engage completly but just enough to make contact but not enough to be normal.

If you're melting clutch shoes, it's most likely that your idle is too high, causing them to stay in contact when they shouldn't. Do you have to hold the brake to keep it from rolling? (It could still be doing this even if you don't.) Either that, or you got some excessive drag in your drivetrain somewhere. Or like Tarant says, they're not fully engaging and always slipping. You're picking up some major friction from SOMEWHERE. :D

If you have to up the idle to keep it running, you've got something goofy with your tuning.

when you put the new CB on were they new bearings as well?
if so you need to take your CB off and clean it after about 1-2 tanks...the bearings will let some lube out and cause your shoes to not grab....they slide causing them to glaze over fast....and then they start to melt.....another possibility is you might be geared too high......but the shoes don't last very long then,,maybe a few tanks.....you can put a smaller CB on it to gear down easily....

Plaid, i just experienced that... I cleaned all of my clutch parts and bell with brake cleaner, and they are dry now. There was a little oil on the bell and clutch shoes, which is why it was slipping. The slipper was also somehow covered in oil, causing that to slip like a biotch... Cleaned it all up, and doesn't slip now. I should get to break it in the rest of the way this weekend!!! I am stoked!

I hope you pickled your mill since the last run man....wasn't that like 2 months ago???
Break that sucker in already......Sirio .27 T-maxx...that thing will FLY....

Yeah man, its been a long time. I had a chance to change some stuff i didnt like, and fix some stuff. I hope it works this time. I got the new radio, so i should be good to go there. The only thing I'm worried about is the rear diff again... feels a little "slippy"... pissin me off... maybe i got some grease on the clutch pads... I'm gonna tear it apart one last time and clean it all up. Then i will mount the new lid and break it in!!!!!!! I think...
