What do you all use the Buddy List for?

I added a couple of guys to my buddy list, but all it does is put + signs next to their names. Is there some benifit to having someone on your buddy list?

ohhhh, thats what it does, ok ok, i thought the +'s for contributers i was wondering why i did not have one.
