SM,
The setup I use (same one that did your F-350) is a Paasche VL dual action brush which I run off my Campbell Hausfeld 13 gallon compressor. I got the big compressor so I could use it around the house for other things. I did just notice that for a short time, Pep Boys (the auto parts store) is selling small Coleman compressors which would work good for just airbrushing and like tire inflation for $70. And as far as an airbrush, dual action gives you the most control. But a simple single action can give you enough to start with until you have experience. I would go to www.bearair.com or www.dixieart.com and check them. They have really good prices...

Echo Candyman... The VL Set is great. Dixie Art has free shipping. Your link has quite a bit of stuff. Would you really need the single action airbrushes AND the VL Set? A seventy dollar compressor and the $60.00 airbrush is a few dollars less.

can u give me the links to the compressor and teh airbrush?

As far as compressors go you can look at it in two ways.
If you are painting in the garage and aren't worried about the noise a good all around compressor is great to have. You can use it to do many other things including blow the crap off of your rc after a day of fun.

If you will be using it in an apartment or inside the house an airbrush compressor is what you will need to keep from getting kicked out.

Doesn't matter what you get you will need to get a pressure regulator and a moisture trap. Keep this in mind as you make your purchase.

i will be painting in my house. in my post earlier, the kit on ebay had teh compressor wiht the pressure regulator and the moisture trap thing. i am think that i am going to go with the ebay kit that i had posted earlier just because it comes with everything i need besides the paint.

I'm using a Porta cable 6gallon pancake compressor I bought for my finish nailer. Works great for cleaning up my trucks and airbrushing... If your going to use a larger compressor like myself or Candyman, I recommend a water seperator and a secondary regulator.

I have this little guy:

$99
http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/product.do?vertical=TOOL&pid=00915210000&bidsite=&BV_UseBVCookie=Yes

2 gals works great for airbrushing and cleaning all of my RC's. It's a great little compressor at a great price. I also for $10 got a lifetime gaurantee if ANYTHING happens to it I get a free one. I already used the warranty once where I siezed the first piston because I didn't read the instructions that said to fill it with the supplied oil first. Goes to show you what reading diections does and how important a Sears warranty can be.

I got this Badger airbrush:

the 150 dual action runs about $70-75 for the kit.

I have to say dual action takes some time. There is a learning curve and it takes a smooth hand with coordination. If it is your first airbrush I sugest getting a single action. I have been airbrushing with this brush for over 6 months and I am still gettting used to it. Hell maybe it's just me who knows?

Anyways this is a very inexpensive combo for under $200. The aircompressor comes with a moisture trap, and a pressure gauge and a trap of some sort is built in the brush as I understand it. It will get you painiting like the pros in no time with this setup.

alright guys, my grandpa and grandma are buying me the airbrush kit off of ebay. now my question is what kind of paint should i use?? i see alot of people using the fascolor. looks like it is a really good paint cause that is what candyman did my body with i think? also do u have to do certain mixtures with the paint?

bryan

I'll give you my take on paint. Typically there are 2 major players in the paint biz. Parma Faskolor and Pactra Racing Finishes. But there are a few others that I'll get to. Basically you'll divide them by either water based or lacquer based. Parma Faskolor and Createx are water based. Alclad, Spaz Stix and Pactra are lacquer. I've had good results with both as far as laying the paint. I like Faskolor and Createx because they are water based and clean easily. I find it difficult to clean lacquer paints becaue you need to use lacquer thinner to clean everything and it smell awful. Water is quick and easy and you can clean the brush easily in the sink when you're done. I know many of the members have also used lacquers and will give their input on that...

The chrome I used on your bod was Alclad II chrome. But Spaz Stix makes a bunch of kick-ass chrome in different shades...

kool, cause for my first body i think i am going to try and recreate the one u made me. except i am going to do a different main color. also can u take and use a 2 liter pop bottle, cut it in half and pratice on it? i heard somewhere that it worked really good.

Yup, practicing on a soda bottle is a great idea. I had done a few test squares when I first started painting. So go for it. And if you are going to make an identical one to the one I did, go to www.rcxotic.com and get the flames from their Mask Depot. That's where I got the ones on your truck..
