4wd. Just locked up out of no where. Ain't the sensor wire or gearing. End bell is screws on perfectly.

2wd. Stopped working. The gold plates for the wires have play in them and moves the inside of the motor around.

Can't be a esc issue right?

Any help? Best to get new motors or try to rebuild? Worked perfectly fine for the first few runs on my "practice" day.

Won't be out racing for a while now.

Man... 😭😭🤦

I know you said, it ain't the sensor cable, does it (your 13.5T) work without a sensor cable? Do you have any spare motors?
Don't have any spare motors. Tested with out sensor cable and same thing it's locked up.

Always ran full sensored mode I'm pretty sure so before when it worked perfectly idk if it were to work without the sensor cable.

Sounds like the magnets inside the locked up one might have broke loose. Actually, it sounds like both might have gotten hot. Have you tried disassembling them yet? If not... why not?

Might as well check them bearings to make sure they are good, and didn't cause things to go south. Now that I think about it, I had a 4268 motor seized up because of one of the bearings let loose. Was one of the weirdest things I've seen... I'd pull full throttle, and the motor wires would jump.

Wondering if the high-traction indoor carpet and clay tracks are loading the motors more than ambient during/after race temps are indicating?

What do the two motor/chassis cars have in common that might lead to failure? Same tracks? Lots of free-revving air time?

Maybe power down and run the B-main for a while, or run as a back-marker in the A-main until you figure out what is going on? Running up front uses up a lot of equipment and costs a lot to do. -AC

Ouch.
Well, what else can you work on in the meantime? I understand your frustration.
Don’t let the failure stop you.

Today was a practice day. I mostly used the mini b, slash and rustler and all went well with those. Fun having more power and jumping over stock slashes lol.

Just left the track.

Oh yea the temps. The 13.5 was only 135 degrees when I came off track. My 17.5 quit like after 3 minutes and was only 103 degrees.

Decided that I think it will be better to get new motors. Save the old motors and try to revive them for spares.

Any opinions on motors under the 130 dollar mark for both 13.5 and 17.5? I feel like I might stick with hobbywing as I think, they are the only brand that lists specs such as kv (under no load), amps, ect. Most other brands don't do that.

If I do Ill probably stick with the current G4R motors. Just comparing specs to the lower ones in 13.5T. The Justock FTM and Bandit G4 outlaw motors are 3200kv while my old G4 is 3950kv and the G4R is 4100kv. Comparing the G4 to G4R most likely going to be the same but slightly more speed or high end because its 150kv more (theoretically?)

Current options (Ones in Bold are motors I previously have experience with):
HW G4R
Team Powers Actinium V5
Whitz Racing HyperSpec
Team Exalt Phoenix Bronze Spec
Fantom Helix V2 Team Edition
Trinity Slot Machine 2 0 - (under 100 bucks!)
Reedy Sonic 540-SP5

Also are these the right size bearings for the G4?
- https://pyrodrone.com/products/nsk-8x3x4-bearing-2-pcs

I find it weird that the G4R motor weighs 158 grams while the old G4 weighs 149 grams.

On my Fantom motor since the whole stator moves around I think its just done for correct?

@WutUp Clegg I know you test motors.

When I took the HW out off the pinion it spun fine. Weird. Looks all normal to me.

Fantom. Took apart. Put back together. Still has that play so I think it's done for.

It locked up in the car but is spinning free now?
Are your mounting screws too long?🤔
For the HW in the 4wd. I mean I was using the included kit screws and it was fine for 2 years.
I noticed that one of the motor screws backed out ever so slightly but highly doubt it can make it lock up like that in the car. Gear mesh was fine?

For the fantom. Its done for theres no way how to fix it

Yeah, binding in the drive was my next thought.
I've never tried to save a motor like this so I can't offer much help but I'll be sure to heckle as often as possible! 👍🤣

Yeah, binding in the drive was my next thought.
When I took out the motor and spun the tires I heard nothing and all moved freely and smoothly so.

Plan is too solder it back up and test it. If it works great. If not it is what it is. I plan on getting new motors anyways. If I can fix up this one ill keep it as spare.
I have to get a new motor for the 2wd regardless or unless someone more techy than me says otherwise.

Soldered it back up and works totally fine!?! Super weird. Rotor bearings and everything looked fine. Wonder why it locked up. Because it wasn't overheating at all.

Bit globby solder but hey atleast it sticks, works and it isn't a cold solder!

You are a mystery David! 🤣 Congrsts on the weirdo save!!! 👍
Yea next time I'm at the track ill monitor temps to make sure nothing is messed up. Still have to get a new motor for 2wd. But still id get 2 motors just in case. Or maybe I can keep this old one for my uncle if he ever wants to come back into racing because no carpet tracks near me races 4wd mod anymore.

No 4wd mod?!?!?! Thats CRAP!!! 🤣
It would be incentive for me to take the 2 front dogbones out of my Mid and then chase the marshalls around the track for 5 mins at a time! 🤣
Too fast on your tracks? Too dangerous? 🙄
I say give the marshalls goalie uniforms and make brakes illegal all together! 🤣

So now you have 2 new race motors and this one??? Hopefully you saved it!!! 👍😎
