Could I put this ESC and motor in either one of these RC 4wd buggies?

You can definitely run that motor and esc

But..

Those buggies weren't meant for that sort of power. You could and will easily tear up gears and drivetrain. I'd definitely limit it to running 2s imo.

Assuming this would be a belt drive car and not chain, with a slipper, you could prob go 13.5 turn or slightly stronger but 4000ish kv is straining the limits of machine and man. 🤣

The Turbo Optima is a great classic and a fun and enjoyable build.

Are you intending to race this car? Carpet or dirt?

Before you get crazy buying a kit, did you know that carbon fiber is availble for this buggy?
THAT would make your Turbo Optima a JET!!!

One of the weaknesses of the Optima chassis was that the aluminum ladder chassis would bend on hard impacts.

CF could be just what is needed. Exodesign has universals, there are better hardware options than stock too.

Careful sourcing of Kyosho parts and aftermarket will help keep costs down. Kyoshos are generally not cheap to build.

Super speed bashing either of the buggies you chose in their stock form, esp with that rocket motor you picked out, will end in a short, sad day.

As you said, they are TOTALLY different.

Do you want to buy a car to bash and run off 20' jumps?
Prob the traxxas

Do you want to buy a kit and race on a proper track with similar 1;10 scale buggies?
Do you enjoy building kits, tinkering... or plug and play?

Kyosho is a better quality machine IMO.

Comparing Kyosho's 1/8 rtr and Traxxas 1/8 rtr and no research required... I'd buy the Kyosho.
 
You are getting WELL over $100 in quality for the money. Thats my point. I think Kyosho are better buggies. I'd wait, save the extra $100 and buy
Kyosho.

Traxxas is fine but its not race quality imo.

For what it sounds like you are doing, the Traxxas could be fine.

I would ask some ppl, read some builds about the hop ups ppl have done on their Jatos and similar chassis.
Batteries and or connector swap (don't start buying Traxxas batteries. They are junk.). Also the stock servo will likely need replace sooner than later too.
I will let a Traxxas guru cover that. 😉

What surface are you running on?
A 1/10 scale is great on a track. It is fun on and off road and at the dunes. .

If grass is involved, 1/8 scale might be a better choice.

I don't think I agree with tons tougher.
Kyoshos are built to win races, not ballroom dance. They are PLENTY tough. 😉

Traxxas parts are more easily found. That is true for sure! 👍
 
I love the old school buggies so much! But the Traxxas Jato has parts at almost any hobby shop. And would probably go just as fast as the Optima.

The jato would prob be faster than the optima.
If speed is your 1st priority, 2s 1/10 scale vintage isn't a great choice.
Old cars CAN be fast but its unrealistic to think a stock 1/10 buggy from 40 years ago is going to compete with a new 3/4?s 1/8 truck.

Its like comparing eggplants and hammers to me. 🤣 Optima and Jato are built for 2 different purposes imo.

I should be clear here, the tough Kyosho I am talking about is an 1/8 scale. Kyosho 1/8 scale buggies are tough as nails.

The Optima was a great buggy, lots of fun but it wasn't super tough. The control arms broke a lot and I mentioned frame damage if you REALLY hammer them.

I would save a ton of money buying the Traxxas as well since its RTR!

I absolutely love old school especially the Optima and Ultima! But not sure I should go that way...

Looks like you/we need to take a step back and reevaluate things. You were deciding to go with an old school RC then changed your mind, doing a complete 180, looking at a rehash from "Fastest Name In Radio Control"... I get it. So many cool RCs out there.
