Well guys, 2005 did not end the way I had hoped. My first day on the slopes on my annual week after Xmas ski trip I broke my leg! Skiing a black diamond, (Well a black diamond according to Hidden Valley PA Standards) and I cought some fresh powder from the snow earlier that day. Well down I went twisted my knee and fell on it and the rest is history. I have a Lateral fracture of the right tibial plateau. Hopefully they will not have to go and put a screw in. I am on crutches for 10 to 12 weeks. Man that sucks, but hey after the MRI on Tuesday night there happened to be an EB Games right next to the place we stopped for dinner and my Fiance says without me making a sound "Why don't we go by there to get a you a couple of Video games for the PS2 since you will be off your feet for a while." Man I love this girl! I also get to watch all the football I want too! Other than the pain in my lower leg, life is good! Well I just thought I would share. Take care guys.

Tom

Thanks dude.... I was like Homer all the way down the hill.... doh!, Doooh!, Doohh!

No doubt... the Vicatin is the stuff! Other than that, it is nice to get waited on hand and foot, although I think I would rather be able to walk at this point. It was nice the first week, but now sitting around all day with you leg up kinda stinks. Not much I can do about it now however. Finace' is great though. I don't know what I would do without her... besides it is much better for her to help me in the shower than it would be for me to go home to mom! Ewwwww... I think I would hire a nurse before I would go to mom for that! :)

Yeah, but now she will be convinced you need to get rid of the board as it is too dangerous and you are getting married and need to think about priorities...marraige... you go from one mom to the next... :preachin:

Sorry to hear about your leg Bro. Hope you don't have to have a screw in it.

Yeah, better take advantage of the pampering. Won't be long before you will be saying "I do." :jk:
Take care.

THAT SUCKS!!!!!
man sorry to hear that......I'd be freakin out about having to tell MY friends I did it at Hidden Valley...LOL.....those are giant sled hills not ski slopes......If you were on a snowboard you wouldn't have busted it like that.......okay enough w/ razzin ya....
at least you have a valid point when she says you can't play w/ your RCs...now you can say "well honey I could go skiing again" :D
the trip to EB w/o notice is definately a good sign.........get better fast....you only have a few more months to go ski again.....

That blows man. I've never been hurt skiing, well nothing major anyway(strained knee...WAY TOO MUCH AIR). But I have been knocked out a few times on snowboard.

Man... That does suck. Have you skiid at Wisp before? Thats where I learned to ski, its AWESOME there. Sorry to hear about your leg :( did you get to be sledded down on the sled at least? lol

Good Lord I hope not! :) Actually I am quite surprised at her reaction to me skiing again. The one thing I have going for me is that she does like to ski. In fact we are going up again next weekend. Sucks for me cuz I have to just sit around the house while they ski, but at least I haven't heard the "You can't ski!" bit.... yet... I have heard the concerns about me being on crutches for our wedding though!

I know this all to well my friend... I am enjoying the ride that's for sure. I do feel a bit guilty watching her do all the cooking and cleaning.... but there is not much I can do about it right now. Although I am sure I will be paying for it later! Thanks for the well wishes my friend. I hope all is well with you.

Yeah.... Hidden Valley isn't exactly "Ski Central". I was a bit worried about telling everyone that it was there and not some place else... I could have made up some place much cooler. LOL I probably should try to board, it is much harder than it looks I am sure. I just can't wait to get back out there and ski that Diamond again. You know prove to myself I can do it. However it does not look like I will get the chance this year. I will be on crutches until the 20th of March. I go back in two weeks to have it x-rayed again to see if I need a screw put in. God I hope not.... I thought it would be a tiny little screw... wrong! that damn screw goes through my entire leg bone. That sucks! I have some parts on order for the Maxx (some MIP shafts ) so I will get to work on the maxx a bit while I am up. I am just waiting on her to suggest we go the LHS for a few things... :)

if you try snowboarding get a small wooden dowel and hold it in front of you like a set of handlebars....it makes learning alot easier......It's actually training you body to stand correctly, the bar keeps both sholders sqared off where they need to be...by holding one arm next to the other it's near impossible to turn your shoulders in a way that drags you down......I taught lessons for Blades (NYC skate shops) ski trips, trust me this method gets even the most clumsy people riding fast.....

Nope, no sled ride down. I actually skiied down the rest of the mountain. It swelled almost instantly so the swelling helped stiffen the leg a bit. Probably didn't help the fracture any. LOL

I tried boarding the first time it was offered in the late '70's. Back then the boards just would not work. Burton was the biggest board maker and most boards were unworkable as they had a fish tail. Bindings were also low tech then.

I skied for years. Got pretty good and could ski any run I came across in California. Only weakness was skiing powder as I have had knee injuries in the past that weakened my thigh muscles. Never could get good in deep powder. Glad I never broke anything skiing, though!

Good luck and have fun working on the Maxx.

Personally, I think this is all carefully planned out...look at the comment about the upcoming wedding date!

Yeah, it really would look bad if she had pushed me down the mountain.... at least now she knows I will not be able to ski anymore this year the wedding is safe.... now I just hope she doesn't follow my sisters advice and do what she did to her now husband.... take the keys to the ATV until after the wedding.... LOL

Tell her riding the ATV will be good therapy to strengthen your thigh muscles after you are out of the cast... :ponder2:

Revo if you still ski, you need to try snowboarding again.....board technology is like a million light years away from the old Burton Cruiser (which is actually what I learned on and then drilled holes to mount trucks on it and go downhill racing in NYC :D)......the newer boards are alot more forgiving and will just float you over the sweeeeeeeetest soft and fluffy you ever seen......get a nice big Burton all mountain board and give it a try....Burton makes nice stuff, easy to ride and will generally hold up for most riders.....
