Hey guys,

I am almost finished breaking in my OS RG X and I broke it in with 20% Trinity. I was wanting to go to O'donell 30%. Is this recomended? And if I do go with the 30% do I need to shim the head? The OS manual does not say. I was hoping someone would be able to help. All the guys at my LHS Track run the 30%, and highly recomend. Was wondering what you all thought. Thanks

Tom

30% maxy's, O'donnells or white lightning is what I run....I use it w/ that engine right out of the box.....it keeps temps down good......you're mill won't last as long but you'll get buttloads more power out of it than 20%.....I hear O'donnels is not good to use if your engine sits for long periods in between uses...something about the after run oil affecting the residue left by the fuel drying up real bad and leaving your mill unlubbed....don't make sense to me but I did see a few mills broken down after that same scenario had more rust pits than others....the maxy's fuel is awsome and if you can get 25% it's better IMO....cause you don't loose much performance if any and it should keep your mill lasting longer.......check to see if the RG is shimmed for 30% right out of the box....I'm a little suspicious cause mine lost compression after 2 gallons this last week.....it needs a pinch now.....still runs good just low compression.....

Plaid,

Man you are like the proffessor man! How long have you been into Nitro. You are a wealth of great knowledge man. There is sooooooo much I don't know. I am glad that you said it is not good to run 30% if your mill sits awhile, cuz I know I won't be able to run every weekend. I also need to get max life out of my mills too. So 25% is the way to go huh? My lhs only carries O'donnells and Trintiy Monster. I believe the Odonnell comes in 25%. I had planned on changing out the plug and going 30 but I think now I will either stay with 20% or bump it up to 25%. I read the OS book and it doesn't say if it is shimmed for 30%. No info at all about running 30% for that matter.

I was just reffering to the O'donnells brand in general...their lube they use is probably natural and breaks down faster than synths...I personally run maxy's 30% when I can get it...mostly cause he runs at mills pond himself and he's a good guy....but I like the fuel....I like Odonnell's too just don't like what I saw in the engines running it and then sitting for a month or so at a time....
actually I haven't been into nitro for long about 9-10 months....but I read stuff and experiment whenever I get the chance to....I had a trial by fire when I started and I just tried everything I could...now I have a pile of nitro RCs I bought used/ fixed up and got running like new just to try em....you get a good feel of what's worth it to buy new and what's worth buying used that way...but at first it was an issue of I am not going to let this stupid machine beat me....yes I am competitive....but in a fun way...not into screwing people and I know how frustrating it was at first.....I've been into RCs for about 20 years though off and on w/ electrics.....I tried nitro 15 years ago when Kyosho made the first 1/8 scale buggies and they sucked.......
I would suggest getting this book:
http://www.southeastrc.com/item/MAN1014
great tutorial on engine basics...if you were ever into motocross or 2 stroke engines of anykind then alot of this is very remedial reading.....if you've never had any experience w/ them this is a very informative book...
I needed to get into something that would keep me from getting into trouble anymore since I blew my knee up again....I need to be away from TV too..not a very big fan of it......I can honestly say that until my daughter was born I never had cable TV...and even now the only time a network station is on is if someone else is watching......

Sounds good. I read as much as I can too. I will get even more oportunity now that college has ended for the semester. It seems as I learn the most by just getting out there and trying it, and seeing it first hand. I am not a great mechanic but I do own and work on my Yamaha GP800R Jetski, which happens to be a 780cc 2 stroke. I am getting more and more familiar with how they work and how to maintain them so Nitros although challenging are easy once I figure out what I am doing. Next thing I am going to tackle is upgrading the drive train on the maxx so I can put the OS .18 in it.

Where can I get fuel if my LHS only carries a few brands? I am sure I can get it via mail, but I am sure you pay out the ass with Haz Mat fees. I have heard great things about Odonnells but I don't want to screw my mills into and early grave.

I did a yamaha ski we stuffed a blaster 2 engine in it.....SICK powerband...and smooth...had to sell it cause too many problems w/ neighbors and police.....I had a friend we shared it and kept it on my dock for a while......he jumped it into a boat off their wake.....no in but hit the side of it....they were telling him to jump the wake and laughing about it...then they wanted to get crazy and swerved right as he hit the lip.....nice crash but they changed their story when the cops showed up......oh well don't get crazy around people you don't know is all I can say.....I'm sure if you take extra precautions w/ the odonnells you'll be fine....I dump ARO in my mill as it's emptying the tank.....so it kills all the fuel left and then I pour more down and bump it for 10-20 seconds to really lube it up good.....but I'd use the trinity fuel...I hear very good things about that fuel....never tried myself but if I saw it in my LHS I would give a try......

Haz mat fees? They don't wear haz mat suits to deliver your fuel do they?!?

hahahahhah!

I know what you mean about people getting crazy on skis.... I don't let too many folks drive the ski much. It does 70 and for a little two seater its wicked fast and easy to loose control of. I have almost lost it a few times myself. Your head has to be on a swivel at all times because once you see something you don't have long to get out of the way. The things that bother me the most are floating debri and submerged pilings. So far so good though!

Thats is what I plan on doing is just flood the thing with with ARO and if it sits for more than a couple of weeks I open it up and put a few more drops in just to make sure.

Blaster engine huh? Dude how did you get that thing in a ski? Did you use the stock pipe on the ski? Sounds sick man, wish I would be there, I bet that thing was sweet!

no stock pipe TDR Tony Doucas Racing custom made one for us.....his shop is 1 block from my old condo.....then we had to custom make water baffles for the air intake cause the engine was almost twice the size of the original...then had to use 4 pumps to clear it out cause the baffles kept water out of the intake but it dumped it in the hull.....what a monster...and it was a real ski not a wave runner......we'd race the gogo boats as they were leaving gov. cut in miami.....sick air on the outside of the cut....I never liked the runners...after riding for 30 mins I got bored.....

Tom:

If you can find Byron's Race Blend 2500 (25%) in your area, that is pretty good fuel for racing and is noted for not destructing your engine prematurely. I use 2500 in my PCR and 3000 (30%) in my TTR V-Spec. Also, I use WD-40 instead of ARO as it removes moisture and lubes the engine. If I store it for a LOOOONNGGG time, then I use ARO.

I run a Yamaha XL 1200 Limited and my wife has a Seadoo GSX Limited. Nothing like getting the 22 miles to Catalina in under 30 minutes, although it takes 10 minutes to get the jelly legs gone when you get there.
