I know this may be a long shot but we do have some pretty techy people here, so with that said has anyone heard anything good or bad about the Vonage services? ( http://vonage.com/index.php ).

They offer VoIP telephone service for pretty cheap prices. Once I moved into my new apartment next week I didn't plan on getting a telephone until I came upon this. Just wanted to see if anyone else has heard anything about them.

Two of my buddies have been using Vonage for over a year now and they have been pretty satisifed with the service. He has the $29.99 unlimited plan in the US and Canada. It comes with 3 way, call wating and caller ID. You can pick the area code. The quality is indistinguishable from a regular phone line.

The best feature, I think, is that the phone number is stored in the modem. My friend occasionally brings it to his business trips, work and to his summer home and connects it to the network.

The only drawback is that you need high speed access, if the cable modem/DSL is down so will your phone.

I'm planning to switch over soon as well as soon as I move in to my new townhouse. For the price, I think it's worth it.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Alex

Alex,

Thanks for the comment. While surfing the net for more info about Vonage I found Packet8 as well, they seem to have a nice offer for $19.95 a month for unlimited phone calls. I was planning on getting the Vonage 500 minutes plan since I'm not home all that often and when I am I'm not usually talking, mainly use my cell phone.

However for $19.95 for unlimited calls that isn't to bad, I've have to look into both companies a little more.

Well,

My cousin is using their services and he says..."I'm very happy for the money". That's all I can tell ya.
