I just bought a used traxxas rustler with brand new 12 CX engine in it. Was wondering how long engines last if u dont race the car just play with it for fun and stuff.Thxundefined

there are soooooo many factors that determine how long an engine lasts.
1)How the engine was broken in
2)Not running it too hot
3)Not running it too lean
4)Keeping your air/fuel clean (air/fuel filters)
5)Storeing the engine with aro

I'm sure that I haven't listed them all, but these are the basics on how long an engine lasts.
I have a Hyper .21 4.5 gallons through it, also a XTM 24.7 with 1.5 gallons. Both are running strong with good compression.
My father in law has a XTM 24.7 pro with 2 gals still strong, he just had his stock Monster gt engine (thunder tiger?) .21 pinched it had 6 gallons through it, would have gone longer but bearing malfunction messed it up.

It all depends how you take care of it.

4 gallons doesn't sound like much, but it's a lot of run time. Especially with a smaller engine like a 12. I run 21 engines in my maxx and savage. Last weekend I ran for about 4 hours and only burned about 1.5 quarts. That's a lot of running. I'm strictly a basher only.

I had an OS 15 cv-r(x) and I traded it to someone else after I ran 6 gallons through it. I think he has run another 2 through it and it still runs well.

It's like vbgagnon said, it all depends on how YOU take care of it.

I'm a dummy but i like to think around 3-4 gal before a rebuild i like to keep it in its prime!!!!
