... a freakin' T.V.!

How wonderful, the lamp on my t.v. just went out. (It's the wife's fault.. all those nights of wasted t.v. time spent sleeping in front of it. Oh she's gonna get it.) So here's the thing... when she called for warranty they told her they could come out on the 14th. THE 14th! However, when I called, miraculously they are able to make it on Monday. Interesting don't you think.?.? Oh whatever... so it'll be fixed for free (and it's no cheap part either) but damnit.. ALL WEEKEND! No Cup race, no Busch race, no racing whatsoever! No Gran Turismo, no The Office, no History Channel. NO HISTORY CHANNEL! ! ! !

AGGGHHHHHHH! ! ! ! ! !

Losing History Channel would bother me more, if they ever played anything besides Modern Marvels.

Doesn't wally world sell cheap TVs that you could use, untill your main unit is fixed?

LOL, is that all? Heck I have been without cable for 3+ years, and dont miss it much until Football season. I do have the PS2 and some rabbit ears for my 4 channels.

What TV do you have? How long have you had it? How old was the bulb?

Sorry for the questions... I'm mildly looking around at HD units, preferably something 60" or larger. We have a 60" non-high def now, but knowing all the high def units use the same technology that requires a $250-$400 bulb that lasts 1500 hours makes me very leery.

Our TV is 7 years old. I've cleaned the lens's, mirror and back of the screen once (a year ago). That's all I've done with it. It's on pretty much every day from 9am-12am. Conservatively 12 hours a day, but more than likely more.

At 2500-3000 hours, that's only 200-250 days... So a $250-$400 bulb every 9 months...

Man no tv. Thats like a punch in the face lol.

Olds, HD is so asume. My dads friend just got a sony and holy cow, It looks like the water on a fishing show is goin to flow out of the screen.

Well... if it makes "fishing" interesting, imagine what it will do for the channel that shows paint drying!

I've seen HD, but I'm more impressed by sound. I have a decent sound setup that I enjoy currently.

Also, when I'm home I don't wear my glasses or contacts, so 5 feet or further is a bit blurry. With a 60" screen, a bit blurry doesn't matter, but HiDef will be lost on me in a lot of respects.

Olds- It's a 42" Samsung DLP. Not really sure which model number though.. the manual is universal for about 7 different models.. probably different sizes. Anyways, we've had it about 3 1/2 years now. But yeah, pretty much everything has a "life" these days. I had a feeling something was up with it cuz it's been looking pretty crappy for about the first 10-15 minutes it's on. After that it's just as you would expect from an DLP. This is the original lamp. Usage at my house varies quite a bit depending on the day of the week. My wife has a bad habit of falling asleep with the t.v. on which I freakin' knew was gonna bite us one day. At least we bought the extended warranty so it's covered I think. Not 100% sure though. I would think that something that has a lifespan wouldn't be covered but I'm not sure offhand. The annoying part about it is that I could replace the lamp in less than a half-hour myself. But in order for it to be warrantied they have to do it  Whatever. So here I sit, no t.v. to watch. At least I can listen to t.v. though! Hehe, my Cable audio goes directly to my receiver so I can still hear everything. 3 1/2 year old t.v. with brand new speakers :)

Actually we do have another old t.v. I could drag out but quite frankly it's just not worth the effort... It's annoying not having a working t.v. but it doesn't bother me quite that much.

My wife and I had bunny ears for years till she decided last year to get the dish network. I luv watching the discovery channel and Spike. CMT has alot of gd programs as does the History channel. And being a di hard sports fan I luv NASCAR as well as pro and college FB. If it were 2go out guess I'd b fishing all the time during the summer lol. Oh Wait I do go fishing all the time my bad.

Got 2 tv's but neither are that big. 32 in the living room and an old 19 inch in the bedroom. Kill's me for the cable to be out.
Discovery, history, speed, outdoor and the military channel is about all I watch. (liked the military channel a lot better when it was the "wings channel.")

Revo I haven't seen a set of rabbit ears since the '70's.
Can remember growing up we had 2 tv's and 3 channels.
Had one tv in the living room, one in the kitchen. Sound was out on the one in the living room, picture was out on the one in the kitchen. First tv I bought was a 13" black and white?

Lessen drag the other tv out and put in the bedroom. Be worth it in the longrun. There will be a time the 'ol lady will want to watch the Lifetime channel.
And as for repair men....

My fridge went out a week and a half ago. He called today. Almost got food in a new one.

LOL Digger yeah we live out in the sticks cudnt get cable had to buy a set of cheap bunny ears fm rat shack. Guess the wife got sick of watching the fuzzy Packer games haha.

I feel for ya lessen. I had the Direct TV go out on me a few times during a football and NASCAR before. It sucks. That was the hard part about getting an HD TV... they all have a life span, and for the money we all spend on them you would hope you get some years out them instead of just so many hours. Good luck... if your in MD you could always stop by for the race.

Digger, isn't that the way it always works? WTF does it take to get a repairman out these days? I could see if it is something that isn't crucial to everyday life... but when your fridge or AC goes out, you have a better chance of fixing it yourself than getting a repairman out in a timely fashion.

thanks Tom! Now if I could just figure out how I can record the race w/o being able to see the menus... :D

Well, the wife decided she wanted to drag out the old t.v. tonight. Really wasn't too bad since we bypassed the cable box and the entire theater system. Not as many channel choices but at least we can watch the race

Finally got the t.v. fixed today. had 16,000+ hours on the original lamp. He said Samsung HDTV's tend to be make more efficient use of their lamps. Just FYI.

thats some pretty good mileage!!!!! damn good warranty as well

mileage, yes. Warrenty, not really. The 5 year plan cost us $400 bones originally. The guy said that lamp is down to $130 (possibly their cost, I havn' seen them that cheap). However, 4 years ago this tech was the newest thing and I was concerned about reliability. On one hand I'm glad we havn't had any major problems but on the other we've spent more than necessary.

that sucks. happend to me once. my little brother came in my room one day and broke it. i dont know how, but there was a 3 inch across crevasse in the side of it!!!!
