hey guys I'm in the market for a new tv. Would just like your input, I'm considering eather a lcd or dlp and leaning towards the lcd. my biggest concern is the life of the tvs. I have been looking at them for some time but would like some of your opnions and maybe what you guys like. thanks

My Buddies big screen just went out (Sony) and the guy who repaired them said he wont own anything over than a samsung. He said its the only tv that isnt dispoosable and is cheap to fix if a person needs to. My buddys was a 68" High definition Sony that was 2 years old. He paid close to 4 grand for it, and some resistors popped in it, and the guy estimated it at $2800 to fix it.. So now its sitting in his garage until summer (Then he wants to hit gold balls at it..lol)..
Just thought Id pass along the info.

I have about 4 years on a Samsung DLP. Bought it when they first started to hit the market. The color wheel went bad on it real quick but was fixed under warranty in my home in 15 minutes. Never had a problem with it since. Great T.V. Beautiful picture! When I buy a t.v. for the bedroom it WILL be a Samsung.

I've done a bit of reading on it and I like the DLP's over the lcd's or plasma. Although, I'm not opposed to a rear projection setup. If your bent on getting a flat screen (wall mount), I don't know if DLP technology applies.

I was looking at a front projection DLP unit. A good one runs about 4G's though. They don't have a real long light life. But, pretty much all hi-def rear projection tv's use the same type of light system as a front projection, so light life would probably be similar (2000 hours in general).

We currently have an old school non-hi-def hitachi 60" rear projection. We've had it for almost 7 years. I took it apart and cleaned the light guns, mirror and back of the screen about 5 months ago. It became as clear and as bright as it was the day we bought it... here I was doing it as a last ditch effort to avoid buying a new TV and I got like new results.

It's still one of the clearest and brightest non high-def units I've seen.

yeah i also like the DLP's but we watch alot of tv, at night after work and alot on weekends so i would hate to buy one and have it go out in the first year or two.

Then you would probably want to go with an LCD or Plasma flat screen.

Although, new bulbs are $250-$350 depending on what you buy. So it isn't like it would be "broke", just needs a new bulb.

A guy like me would buy a new bulb right away to have on hand... We can't live without TV. Ours is on about 14-16 hours a day. My wife doesn't work... and it's her friend. 60 inches of "The View"...

With the technology there is around right now, I would choose Plasma over LCD any day. They just seem to have much better colour definition.

i personally like my plasmas because they have better colors...the black is black lcdss are grayish....i have a dlp now and in the next few weeks going to get a new plasma.......I've tried all and still like plasma, dlps, lcds are harder to see in the daytime when you have alot of light.. just my opinion

I would have to agree with HB111. Plasmas are the way to go. I've owned other kinds including LCD and DLP Projection and prefer the picture of a plasma.

What's bad about plasma? Anything? I know LCD screens take a lot of power to run, which in general means the electronics are running hotter.

Didn't plasma used to be slow to react? You would get image blurring on high speed action?

I wouldn't buy a Plasma TV if they were the last things on the planet. We've been using plasma monitors in airplanes for years and they just plain suck. The picture is great but they are about as reliable as the french army. Finally cabin entertainment systems are using LCD.

I don't own any of these so filter my comment thru that.....my TV is an old toshiba...it works ok.

But I look at them at costco all the time, and I like the LCD pictures actually better than most plasmas........perhaps its my eyes.....but high contrast LCD is the poop as far as I am concerned......when I get around to buying one that is.

thanks guys it seams that there are pros and cons to all and i would really like to stay away from plasmas. I have a direct view flat screen sanyo and i love it, you can't beat the pic, but we just want something bigger, so that means new technology.
