The locknut that adjusts the slipper clutch on my Slash 4WD VXL keeps coming loose. I tried thread locking it in place and it came loose again. Should I just replace the locknut? Is this a symptom of something else that is wrong? Gears look fine when I pull the rear transmission apart. There are no grinding noises when running. It runs fine for about 20 seconds then the motor runs and the wheels don't turn. Is this nut for the slipper clutch something that I can buy at the hardward store? I ordered a proper replacement Traxxas nut but I got a message that order has been "delayed." by Amazon on the day it was supposed to arrive which is very frustrating. I now have been waiting a week for some stupid part that I could have driven to the hobby store for. I really regret buying this thing. I was going to to buy the 2WD version but the guy at the hobby store convinced me to buy the 4WD one. There are just too many damn parts. If it were a 2WD I would have an easy idea of how to diagnose what is going on. Can I just run it as a 2WD or will that damage anything? Any information would be appreciated. I am very frustrated. I didn't even crash it yet.

How old is this truck? Is it possible that it could be missing transmission parts? Pretty surprising that thread lock didn't hold it. Somethings definitely up.

Could we get some pictures?

I just bought it. It is about 2 weeks old. This happened on the 5th run. Here is a short video showing the problem:

When you took the trans apart was it missing this pin? Or was the pin possibly snapped?

I don't remember. I will pull it apart right now and report back. Thanks!

Yeah, the pin is still there and intact.I actually hadn't pulled the diff apart yet. The video is from before I took the truck apart at all.

Thanks so much for the info. Are you at a greater risk of stripping gears or messing anything up with this? Is it basically a drop-in replacement?
Yes, drop in part, direct replacement for the slipper. It came standard on my Hoss and is now standard on the new Stampede 4x4 VXL.

No worries with it causing damage, and it can be 'adjusted' by using different weight diff fluid. I have them in all six of my 4x4 models and they have worked well for me.

Well dang man then if it's not the nylon nut the I got no idea. Id take it to the hobby shop where you got it and have it warrantied. Pretty sure traxxas has a limited warranty, I would imagine a defective slipper is covered

Everything runs super smoothly in the front end, rear end, and suspension. Something is just busted in the slipper clutch. It has to be that. Everything in the car still has that new "gliding on ice," feeling. I will hit up the dealer. The problem is that it is an hour drive away and I really don't want to do the drive there again. I am frustrated enough that I just might buy the full assembly and be over it: https://traxxas.com/products/parts/6878 . Maybe I can get them to send me one. From what I can tell only the electronics have a warranty for one month. I don't think the mechanical stuff has a warranty. I

Ok the bearing around the slipper is shot and that was causing the issue. I don't know if the slipper is fried too so I just bought a new assembly. The only one a hobby shop near me had is made by a company called Iron Man R/C. Is this any good? The new assembly came with a 53 tooth spur gear made of metal. The Traxxas spur gear already in the truck is 54 tooth. Is it going to be a problem to just drop the new gear in? Is this going to mess up the gear ratio or anything?I assume I will have have to reset the gear mesh.

Makes sense! Sounds like a good upgrade. The truck will be slightly faster with the smaller spur. Just be sure to adjust your gear mesh after you install the new spur. using a single ply of printer paper between the spur and the pinion then pressing them together and securing the motor down should make for a good mesh
