took a long time to start s-25 first time--

today i began break-in of my savage's s-25. well it took me a long time of yanking on the pull-starter before i could finaly get it running the first time, and after un-flooding it a -few- times and then tweaking the needles to figure out what was goin on i had probably yanked the pull-starter a good maybe 200 times in all(thats an estimate but I'm serious i was yanking on it for awhile).

my question is since the brand new sleeve/piston tolarance is so tight would all those revolutions while at ambient temp cause it to have premature wear? although I'm at my last step of the bess heat cycle method and right now compression is so tight i have hard time turning it over with my finger, i feel as though i might have wore it out a little more than it should on initial start-up.
 
i wouldn't worry too much about it, you stated that it was flooding and where there is fuel there is oil. If you haven't overheated it (above 280 deg.) for too long you shouldn't have any problems. Mine was hard to start as well(it still is) and it lost a little compression but is just now (10 tanks of fule later) starting to get with it.
 
Something I did to break in my picco 26 to make it a little easier on my knuckles and pullstart situation was to use two glo plug washers. It helped immensley. I also heated up the head with a hair dryer since it was cold out. I think it fired on the fifth pull. You may have caused a little damage but I don't think it's anything to worry about honestly. You should be fine

I myself just got through breaking in my S-25. To start this thing for the first time, it was the hardest thing I have ever encountered in RC'ing so far. That just goes along with big blocks though! In regards to your question, You need not worry about anything. Like one of the other gentlemen stated it was flooded, so there was fuel in the engine. Hence this was it's lubrication. Give it about 10-15 tanks of fuel, and it won't be so hard to pull. A little lost compression down the road (like 1/2 to 1 gallon) will indicate that the engine is broke in just right! Just my .02

thx guys..actually I'm not concened about the high compression and that its hard to pull..actualy i like that lol..was jsut wondering about the cold, unexpanded sleeve being prematurely worn out from so many revolutions while trying to start it. but i guess its no big deal. -peace
