Meeting Sky and Error this morning proved to be a really fun experience. We met about noon at Sky's place and after a few short words we were on our way to a place Sky had scouted out a few days ago which may prove to be some intense bashing grounds. He was right.
We all unpacked our gear, 3 cars worth of stuff and thankfully, Sky remembered to bring his tent thing that gave us some well needed shade in the Virginia heat.
We started out doing a few drag races on the gravel road which started to get a little boring for me so I headed out into a little rougher country. In some ways that place I went into seemed a little too rough to get anything going.
I switched from my Savage to my T-Maxx and noticed how much more power the truck has now since I changed the hyper 21 turbo for the .21bb from Sky's stock Savage. It was almost impossible to keep control of in 1st gear which makes me want to change from the 18T clutcxh bell to the 22T clutch bell sitting in my tool box.
Error and I had a mid road collision which seemed harmless but I saw my steering servo broken a few seconds later. First of many pit stops of the day for broken this, that and the other. Upon replacing my servo I changed back to my savage and played in the opposite side of the road.
As I am going over the edge that I can't see behind, I hear Sky say, "Careful, there's a lake back there!" I not longer hear my savage. First thought, well I'd better not say my first thought, my second thought, "Great now I have to dry my engine again!!!" Bummer.
Luckily as I approached the edge I saw that the lake was way further than I thought and my savage was on it's top dead. Okey dokey. I restart it and attack the hill keeping the lake to my back and my savage away from where I can't see.
There was a killer mud puddle that seemed a little too easy to go through from your first glance however it did prove that it contained the industrial strength mud within. After running a full tank in my savage I refilled and ran again. About halfway through the second tank it seemed like something was binding so I gave it a little kick and it ran fine until I brought it back to idle and it did it again. I headed to the tent to see what was wrong, oops there's a spur gear down the drain.
I switched back to my t-maxx and promptly broke my servo saver. Luckily Sky had a spare. I replaced this and began running my t-maxx through the jumping phase of the day. No really good air because it was almost impossible to line up onto the jump with so much power but I was able to manage a few small jumps until I noticed my brakes no longer functioned. I popped the top and found that one of my brake caliper screws had come loose and the brake piston was missing. I removed everything except the brake shoe, bad idea. The front drive shaft kept binding as a result so I decided to call it quits for the day.
Wait, I still have my electric in my jeep with all my batteries fully charged, so I thought. I was able to manage few short runs with my electric but nothing compares to nitro.
Sky kept being plagued with nickel and dime problems that kept ticking him off, Sky remember to slightly lean your LSN!!!
Error on the other hand was the star attraction of the day. He pretty much ran flawlessly the entire afternoon. He made a few dozen or two great jumps. I got tons of pics of his savage in the air and bouncing on the approach to the big jump.
I know both Sky and Error will probably post here so I'll let them talk about what specifically happened to them, since I was either running or trying to fix something I broke.
All in all, we had a great time and are meeting at noon tomorrow for part two. I now need to replace a spur gear from my muddy savage and rebuild my brakes on my t-maxx. I am also probably going to charge all my electric batteries as well just for tinkering.
