  1. Bashing
Meeting Sky and Error this morning proved to be a really fun experience. We met about noon at Sky's place and after a few short words we were on our way to a place Sky had scouted out a few days ago which may prove to be some intense bashing grounds. He was right.

We all unpacked our gear, 3 cars worth of stuff and thankfully, Sky remembered to bring his tent thing that gave us some well needed shade in the Virginia heat.

We started out doing a few drag races on the gravel road which started to get a little boring for me so I headed out into a little rougher country. In some ways that place I went into seemed a little too rough to get anything going.

I switched from my Savage to my T-Maxx and noticed how much more power the truck has now since I changed the hyper 21 turbo for the .21bb from Sky's stock Savage. It was almost impossible to keep control of in 1st gear which makes me want to change from the 18T clutcxh bell to the 22T clutch bell sitting in my tool box.

Error and I had a mid road collision which seemed harmless but I saw my steering servo broken a few seconds later. First of many pit stops of the day for broken this, that and the other. Upon replacing my servo I changed back to my savage and played in the opposite side of the road.

As I am going over the edge that I can't see behind, I hear Sky say, "Careful, there's a lake back there!" I not longer hear my savage. First thought, well I'd better not say my first thought, my second thought, "Great now I have to dry my engine again!!!" Bummer.

Luckily as I approached the edge I saw that the lake was way further than I thought and my savage was on it's top dead. Okey dokey. I restart it and attack the hill keeping the lake to my back and my savage away from where I can't see.

There was a killer mud puddle that seemed a little too easy to go through from your first glance however it did prove that it contained the industrial strength mud within. After running a full tank in my savage I refilled and ran again. About halfway through the second tank it seemed like something was binding so I gave it a little kick and it ran fine until I brought it back to idle and it did it again. I headed to the tent to see what was wrong, oops there's a spur gear down the drain.

I switched back to my t-maxx and promptly broke my servo saver. Luckily Sky had a spare. I replaced this and began running my t-maxx through the jumping phase of the day. No really good air because it was almost impossible to line up onto the jump with so much power but I was able to manage a few small jumps until I noticed my brakes no longer functioned. I popped the top and found that one of my brake caliper screws had come loose and the brake piston was missing. I removed everything except the brake shoe, bad idea. The front drive shaft kept binding as a result so I decided to call it quits for the day.

Wait, I still have my electric in my jeep with all my batteries fully charged, so I thought. I was able to manage few short runs with my electric but nothing compares to nitro.

Sky kept being plagued with nickel and dime problems that kept ticking him off, Sky remember to slightly lean your LSN!!!

Error on the other hand was the star attraction of the day. He pretty much ran flawlessly the entire afternoon. He made a few dozen or two great jumps. I got tons of pics of his savage in the air and bouncing on the approach to the big jump.

I know both Sky and Error will probably post here so I'll let them talk about what specifically happened to them, since I was either running or trying to fix something I broke.

All in all, we had a great time and are meeting at noon tomorrow for part two. I now need to replace a spur gear from my muddy savage and rebuild my brakes on my t-maxx. I am also probably going to charge all my electric batteries as well just for tinkering.

Good to hear you had an overall good day. I ran two of my trucks a bit but got bored pretty quick. I've been trying to think of a place around home to run that would be cool but all the good areas are now houses and yards. Thought about going to the races but too far away for a good track. I'll think of some place, guess I'll just have to spend a day driving around and looking. The area I live in is mostly coal dirt and river silt. Not real good for moving parts. Other aresa a re off limits by townships, and/or state. Just can't seem to win.

My servo in my buggy is junk, won't keep the tires striaght after landing so the tires are jerked one way so I'm upgrading now.

My savage is fixed, thanks to Error for giving me his spare spur gear. Tomorrow Sky is going to check his LHS to see if they have the brake piston.

Check your servo saver!b

And not one of you is coming to the bash are you? lol

Hey El - At least you didnt KILL one THIS time ;) Sounds like you guys had a blast.

Today's festivities started beautifully. The weather was nice, a bit on the hot side but nice.

I was running my Savage and finally gutted the right rear rim. It only took me a few high speed runs, during our little drag race session. Changed to T-Maxx stockers and went. NOTE: HPI rims suck. I did not turn a single hex in the T-Maxx tires.

Anyway, the jump Pirata mentioned happened to be just right for trick air. I landed two back flips in a row. First time that has happened for me with the Savage. In the process, I sheared one of the center line dogbones. Thanks to Error, I was up and running again. NOTE: Stock HPI dogbones SUCK. Will be getting the beefiest thing I can find at the LHS tomorrow morning.

The day started to go south when I decided to attempt to cross the mud puddle Pirata mentioned above. The truck did just fine, but it came away soaking wet and covered in mud. From that point on, my day turned south. I battled tuning issues. I re-engaged and battled the same tuning issues again. Found out that my cooling head was loose...that was a moment for panic. Luckily for me...no sand or crap in the engine. Cleaned the internals while I had it apart. Re-assembled the engine and went for another tank of fuel. Still need to tune it, and yes, the LSN needs some tweaking.

All in all the site was awesome (going back tomorrow). The fun was enormous. And when Error gets home, we'll see some cool vids from his onboard camera.

Tomorrow is another day and more opportunities to break our trucks.

BTW, it sucked that the one guy who had the longest drive to get here was the only one left standing at the end of the day.

I can't get too lengthy at the moment, but I will get back on this thread tomorrow.

As for going home with a functional truck, that remains to be seen. The filter did come off on one of the "thud" landings (check EP's gallery) and I don't know if a grain of sand got into the engine, but it was running kind of hot at the end of the day. I was thinking that it might be a tuning issue directly related to the fact that my filter had a rather crusty and thick layer of oil and sand. I'll just have to pull some serious maintenance on the whole truck and see.

And you guys were mocking me for giving my Savage the spit shine cleaning last night....sometimes a little clean goes a long way.

Exactly what? Mine was broken.

What was broken, you could not see the great E-Maxx body on your T-Maxx through all the dried mud, or was it cracked? Again!

how did day two go? much of the same?

maybe I'm wrong, but all three of you have the hyper .21 engines in your savages. I noticed two of you were having tuning problems. Did you know the OS 20e carb (2 needle) can fix those tuning issues? It's the best hop-up I've put on my 8-port.

I bought mine used for $20 locally. He said he still had a couple too. PM me if any of you guys want one.

I have the stock 21 bb engine in both my savage and my t-maxx. As far as tuning problems, well I will always have those from time to time.

Day 2 was much rougher on the trucks than day 1. After we finally got the obligitory "work on your stuff before you break it again thing" out of the way, we gently mesaged the sandbox ramps to maximize the potential for gratuitous truck bashing. This took some effort since it was basicly a sand box, filled with (you got it) sand. Come to think about it, EP was buzzing his savage around Sky and me like a coked up yellow jacket while Sky and I were doing the shoveling. Thanks EP, forgot about that till just now. After we got this task taken care of, we proceeded with our intended goal for the weekend. I can't say, and won't speculate on EP and Sky's problems, but mine was due to a runny nose and a change in elevation. It's about 1400' asl where I live, and where we were was basically at sea level. But the main problem for me was too much oil in the filter that eventually mixed with the sand and caked up the elements. At least that's what I hope it is, and not some grit that got into the engine when the filter came off. It popped off and the truck ended upside down, so I wasn't running it without a filter. We did get some killer pix and some really cool video, which I'm gonna dump and mix hopefully tonight. When I get mine done, I'll post a link (s) in the video forum. All in all, it was a great trip for me and I really think Sky and EP are great bash buddies (and damn good guys to hang with). EP swapped my HD DBs with the CVDs I got in Richmond on the way down while I was working on his daughters computer, and there are damn few folks that I let take my truck apart (and it didn't break either, EP). Sky is awesome also. I was really amazed at the adept skill he showed in repairing the Hyper PS cord in the field (also his skills in cussing at it while simultaneously fixing said PS was truely breathtaking).

Whitt....

Yes he made it home alive. When are you going to post the pics or videos? I mean I had mine posted both nights. Speaking of which, get on AIM Sky.

It sounds like you guys had a blast. Too bad you can't make it up to NY so I can bash with you. Its time for the pics and movie!!! :)
