Today's Bash

While waiting for today to come Sky called me last night to tell me it was snowing. He had to gall to ask if I still wanted to bash. I mean they don't call me the Master of Disaster for nothing... Anyway, today arrived and the temps were in the low 30s. The snow was starting to melt causing puddles to form on the track. First off we found that it was exceptionally difficult to start our rc's because of the cold so placing them in our vehicles for 10 minutes with the heaters cranked helped out big time.

Lastly I must sat that I have never bought an RTR that had ZERO oil in the air filter, guess that was a big reason why I killed my storm in less than a tank of fuel. I think Sky got some video but I am not sure when he will have either a video or stills of the bash.

When you said you "killed" your engine, I hope you didn't mean that you cooked it.

looks like u had fun. too bad up here in NY i still got too much snow and its still too cold. i hate the cold, i hate the snow... i hate winter.... I'm assuming u guys ripped ur engine and electronics down after u got done bashing though the snow and wetness? well i wouldnt but still. :shhh:

What happened to your storm? Fried the engine? Well, you said you average $400 after a serious bash, just didn't think you would do it in the first tank.

The engine will be fine. When I was growing up I used to race outboard hydroplanes and I became very adept at drying and engine when I dumped one, generally in under 20 minutes. My Storm engine is full of after run oil right now but I betcha a dollar I can get it fired as good as new tomorrow.

Nice pictures, EP. I know you took more. Were these the best of the lot? or Are more pending? Just curious.

Also, you didn't list the carnage. An usual occurance or just an oversight?

Both of EPs buggies went out in the first tank of gas. My T-Maxx refused to start and as a result snapped the pull start spring (cheap repair). My Savage got more water and snow than the huge wheels , spur gear, and clutch bell could handle. End result, fried clutch shoes and pretty much cored the spur gear (teeth are fine, center hub...not so fine). John also suffered some damage to his buggy. Same thing as my T-Maxx...pullstart busted.

Yes it was fun. Had to be one of the shortest bash sessions we have ever had. The weather wasn't a deciding factor, as you can see we played in the snow (what little we had) and the mud withour too much fear. BUT our rides all suffered from a winter of sitting idle. Time for some serious spring cleaning and tune-ups.

Next time, more air and tons more costly carnage.

The only thing I did when I got home was put the Savage in the kitchen sink to rinse off the remaining snow and muck. Then hit it with a hair dryer to get most of the moisture off of it. Gave the electronics bay and air filter a good look...nothing. No problems there.

From there it was time to trouble-shoot my drivetrain issues. Originally thought I had fried the tranny, BUT the slipper clutch did its job. Fried one set of clutch shoes (now I have an excuse to pick up the three shoe clutch I've been eying) and cored the spur gear.

Other than that..no real extra attention needed. AND NO, I do not waterproof my chit.

I didn't forget to tell about the carnage, I knew you would. Update from the bash. Both engines are fine and will fire up tomorrow just to make sure. Blown steering servo in my inferno so not a bad day. I can't wait for the pics to be posted of the missing Brown Teletubbie.

Unfortunately today's bash was not exactly what you call long, probably under an hour fron tie first start until everything was broken. Sky did get some video of the brown teletubbie and didn't get a pic of me marking my turf.

Yes, I am. Have been for quite a while (at least since the sandbox bash we had with Error). Running IMEX Jumbo Max diamond rims with Claw Dawgz tires. They have a monster footprint (as Pirata saw today in the snow). Great for running through all kinds of stuff or over all kinds of stuff. I had more fun running all over the track, over the barriers, side to side than I did actually trying to stay on the track.

The only drawback to the big tires is that you do not get so much air under there. Today, the engine, drive train and the snow and water did not make for optimal performance. So, I did not ever get a full head of steam up prior to any of the big jumps.
