Thinking about buying a FMS 1220mm Ranger

FMS makes nice planes, and a high wing like the Ranger is a good choice for a beginning pilot. Are you going to be flying off a hard surface or grass. If grass I would suggest a plane like the cub with tail gear instead of nose gear. Nose gear is a little tougher to use in grass.

Welcome aboard! :)

Hey,

I would like to get into the Rc plane scene, but I have no clue what to look for in a plane. Right now, the FMS 1220mm Ranger is looking like my first buy, but I just want to know if it is actually good.
It comes with the Reflex V3 gyro system and is a wonderful airframe.

I do have to say that few, if any planes are perfect for a complete Noob to RC Flight, trying things 100% on their own. However, it is among the better ones on the market. It is very close to the top for its size per dollar as well.

I have a thread on this forum that shows my unboxing/maiden flight with mine, so check that out if you haven't yet and ask me any questions there or in this thread.

On other note, if you want FMS Discount Codes to save some money on it, let me know or look at the description of my video for the codes.

Tail draggers seem to be a bit easier to learn on for sure. Turbo timber is a great beginner, the carbon cub also is a fun beginner both have Safe Select and the As3x safety system on them.

I have to disagree about the tail draggers for Noobs. They have to be on the rudder with precision verses one with tricycle gear. Those are good planes, but not that great for beginners IMO.

Check out the end of this video for a real world example:

Thats a cool looking bird right there.

Thanks for all the advice! I am planning on flying on solid ground, so I'll go with the front wheels. Thanks for the codes too!

Welcome in, this is a awesome plane to start with.
I also highly recommend a Realflight Simulator. I have the Realflight 9 and a lot of the planes on the sim you can buy.
I started with the Carbon Cub S2. It's an awesome plane to start with and it's on the simulator.
My first flight was flawless and I put my own electronics in it so I didn't have beginner mode.

This is a good suggestion too. Their most recent Trainer Release will cover the bases for most as well.
