I have some extra cash from painting, and i was contemplating getting another engine besides my P5 because, lately, sometimes it starts, and some times it doesn't. I want a high performance engine for around 200-250, like something modified or really good for a CRT and a MBX5/8 I've been looking at V-specs, Ninja's and P5x Hotmods, but i havent had experience with anything but a Rex P5 and it hauls anytime i use it but recently, since not running it for the winter, it starts sometimes, then dies, and then i can't get it to start anymore, and I dont feel like dealing with that. Ill open it up and clean it and it should work fine, but untill then, looking wont hurt.

Please give me your opinions on the best engine I can get for this price range. Thanks.

A stock V-Spec is about all you'll find that you mentioned in that price range. A little more about $280 you can get a Radical 621T or 621P, both are great motors. Forgot though, Novarossi has a new 6 port that's not too bad for just under $200 at some places, you can find a modded one for about $250-$260. The Ninja is upwards of $300, as is a modded V-Spec. A modded P5 will be up there as well. I run a stock V-Spec in my truggy for club racing and it's a great motor. Nice power and great fuel economy, easy to tune and reliable. I did put new bearings (TKO Ceramics) in it at 1 gallon just to be safe. I also have an EB Mods V-Spec that I run at bigger events. I really don't think it's worth the extra money unless you run on bigger tracks. My Ninja is modded by RB Mods and all I can say is the thing is just freakin insane! I just started break in on a 621P so hopefully I'll have some input on that after this weekend. I know a couple guys that run for Radical and the 621T is very impressive.

Thanks for the input. I can always look around for good deals also, like... i got my Rex P5 with a Mugen head with 1 gallon through it for $150 shipped lol. Ill stay on the lookout.

It sounds like you have no compression. When it's warm check it, if it's easy to turn the flywheel by hand then I'd say that's your issue. The P5 is one of the tightest mills I've ever come across, I just detonated one due to a bearing issue but that sucker was on about it's 4th gallon and was just getting to where I could turn it over by hand.

hmmm, I'm not sure because it seems to have good compression. I'm gonna take it apart right now and get back to you.

EDIT: ok, i opened it up and inspected everything and it looks fine. I also checked the compression and it was just ok, but not great. So I might just need a pinch. Ill run it tomorrow if the weather is alright, and let you know if i can get it back to normal! Thanks for the help.

when warm or cold? An engine can seem like it's good cold but once it warms up it could be a different story. Usually if an engine won't stay running when it's warm and you have to wait for it to cool to start back up it's not to good of a sign.

Well, right now its cold, but the last time I drove it about 4-5 weeks ago, it was working flawlessly, started instantly and was tuned perfectly. It always used to start at any given time, when the engine was warm or cold. Ill see the next time I drive it and maybe it could be a tuning issue or whatever.

You can also look at the Collari/Werks B3/B7 mills, very nice. I really liked my B3 on the short track, I geared it up a little and put a 086 on it and it ran the larger/medium track pretty well.
