I had to put these two together fellas because the size difference is ridiculous. They are both technically 1/8 scale, but the Kraton makes the Inferno look like a 1/10 buggy.

The green buggy is my vintage Kyosho Inferno MP-7.5 Kanai Edition II with a vintage Picco .21 big-block. I painted the metallic-green body.

The Kraton 6S arrived today and is even better than I expected (thank you S.). It has a Hobbywing Max8 G2 ESC, 4278 SD G2 2250 kV motor, JConcepts aluminum front and rear chassis braces, aluminum shock towers, and a carbon-tube chassis brace. It also came with three complete sets of wheels and tires.

The Kanai is a precise, championship-era nitro race buggy. The Kraton is an enormous modern 6S animal. I’m incredibly grateful to have them both.

Your comparing a F250 to a Celica.
Buggies are pretty small. A 1/8 buggy is the same size as a 1/10 SCT truck. I use a re-bodied EB48 for a SCT race truck. It corners better.

Cool, and yes I know it's just a drastic difference in scale, I hadn't seen a Kraton in person until I received this one today from s. I've flow 1/4 scale planes with my grandfather back in the 90s so I know how big those can get, but I was still a bit awestruck even with my 1/8 scale buggies in the mix M8.

I don't like how wonky RC 'scale' is either.
A 1/10 scale buggy snd a 1/10 scale SCT are TOTALLY DIFFERENT!

Its what keeps me uninterested in SCT actually.

Since then, 'scale' has only drift further away from where it used to be.

It is hard to determine because there are no real, tangible "Kraton's" out there to compare to.
I guess they can say whatever they want.
You could go just off the body and compare it to a truck i guess. That is the only thing I could think of that is close.

i saw a comment somewhere saying that truggies are just 1/7th scale buggies and it's stuck in my head since

probably even more true now since everyone and their sons run stretched buggy bodies on their truggies with a small nosepiece to cap off the front

1/10 scale size totally depends on the actual size of a 1/1 rig. Suzuki samurai in 1/1 scale is literally less than 1/2 the size of a Chevy blazer 1/1. Please show me a 1/1 scale buggy that's the same size as a f150. If anything, that green buggy is actually larger scale than the truck if you actually compare measurements to 1/1 rigs

Problem being, the buggy was built about 30 years before the 1/8 scale trucks, SCTs and everything else thats gone wonky.
Since they are both builts upon fictional 1:1 vehicles, my OCD would feel better if the scale sizes that I grew up with, remained as they were.
If the 1/8 scale truck should be built bigger, build it that way.

Drift and TC bodies are availible in 1/12 and 1/10 scale. Put a drift 1/10 scale body and a SCT 1/10 scale body, say a dodge duster body, not a truck body.
The 2 bodies aren't even close to the same in any direction.

VW bug bodies are availible in 3 or 4 different sizes from Proline. All listed as 1/10 scale tho.

Time should have no bearing on scale, scale is scale. Crazy how people think a 1/10 bug should be the same size as a 1/10 blazer. That's not how scale works.

I never mentioned a blazer tho. I do not think 1:1 Blazers and bugs are the same size.

One size does not fit all. I do not think that is how scale works.


Time is relevant when someone starts trying to create a new 'norm'.
There WAS a system. It doesn't need to be revamped because someone wanted to race an 1/8 scale truck with 1/10 scale buggies.

Am I to believe that 1/10 buggy tires should be scale compaired to little 12" tire and rim combos, 1/10 SCT tires should be 24"+ with 58" tires, monster truck tire and wheel combos all taller than me?

How about crawler tire and wheel set ups?

I compared 3 different vw bug bodies that are based on an actual car that can be measured.

Why are there different size 1/10 scale vw bug bodies?
Why aren't they all the same?

They're not the same because some companies just don't use actual scale measurements, just go off a chassis measurement, change proportions to get around licensing, or just make it up. My 1/10 optic runs 5.4" tires which is pretty typical 1/10 scale, many buggies run 54" tires which is scale and 2.2 wheels would be about 22" which is also pretty normal on crawlers. A true 1/10 scale bug would have ~ 240mm wheelbase and be about 13" bumper to bumper.

Prerunnrr short course trucks have never been in this discussion and if those are the buggies rc companies are trying to go with the green one in op is more like 1/6 scale
